this post brought to you by Talbots
can you believe five weeks ago the fall classics series launched with Talbots? what a fun gig it’s been as Talbots Fall Classics Guest Editor where we’ve taken a look at ten classic items week by week. if you missed any of the previous posts, i’m sharing those with you today. the series kicked off labor day weekend with a classic ponte blazer and slim ankle jeans. the second week zeroed in on a perennial favorite the classic pencil skirt, week three was all about a ponte sheath dress in indigo blue that’s perfect for work. last week we talked about hampshire ankle pants, audrey – a cashmere sweater, the perfect shirt, and francesca driving mocs. which brings us to today’s post where we take a look at two classic wardrobe essentials that every closet should include – the charming cardigan and silk scarf.
today, i’m wearing the charming cardigan and silk scarf with two different outfits. the first ootd pairs the classic cardigan with a traditional fall pattern – glen plaid. the muted hues of coral and brown give a fresh update to this tailored pencil skirt. one way to keep the classics from becoming stale or stodgy is to reach for modern or trendy accessories. what’s hotter than animal print this year? so i added leopard haircalf wedges into the mix for good measure. a kid suede statement handbag compliments the fall color scheme. but the star of this show is a multi-patterned silk scarf that gives the outfit a pop of color.
in my book, there’s nothing more beautiful than a silk scarf that can be worn so many different ways. Talbots has a wonderful tutorial on how to tie your scarf in five ways. this particular scarf was designed by Hannah Davies from South Wales, UK. it’s part of Talbots Art of the Scarf collection that features five limited-edition, one-of-a-kind scarves created by internationally renowned female artists. and the best part is that 20% of net proceeds benefit the National Breast Cancer Foundation.® doing good and looking good truly go hand-in-hand.
here’s a recap of Talbots classics list.

but a charming cardigan looks fantastic partnered with a casual ootd too. a pair of slim ankle jeans were exchanged for the classic pencil skirt. and driving moc’s replaced the leopard wedges. since the temps are finally cooling off a shetland aberdeen blazer is a welcome addition come morning.

Can you post instructions for how you tied the scarf?
i will try to get a YouTube video together. but i folded the scarf into a triangle, then took the two ends, wrapped it twice around my neck and tied it in front. xo
Thanks Beth.
So glad Talbots has found ways to modernize their merchandise–this classic collection and finding wonderful bloggers like you to publicize it is just the thing.
hopefully, you’ve found some inspiration. classic style doesn’t need to be stuffy. it’s all about keeping it fresh and modern with accessories. but give me an ageless, timeless look any day of the week. xo
I prefer the jacket on you over how it looks like on their website. I wouldn’t have had an interest in the one online. Great looks. I have a number of the charming cardigans–they’ve always been good and come in lots of colors.
the jacket it gorgeous in person, sue. the collar has a pop of green underneath and i love the contrasting pink along the pocket and collar. i have a darling outfit already picked out to wear with this jacket on our trip to NYC. stay tuned! xo
This outfit suits you beautifully – you are a perfect model!
hi my sweet friend! it’s been great fun these past few weeks wearing those classic styles i’ve come to love. hope all is well in your world. xo
