destination wedding | mother of the bride dress or mother of the groom dress
today, i’m sharing three dresses that made the final cut for my mother of the groom dress. the wedding party colors were blues and greens. so i stayed within that color palette. another factor that played into my decision making was that the wedding was held outside in a rustic setting. short dresses are perfect for afternoon weddings. a jumpsuit would be a suitable alternative.
before we go any further, i wanted to wish you a very happy mother’s day! motherhood is truly the most rewarding role in every way. what an amazing journey we have with our children watching them grow from tiny infant to full-fledged adult. there are so many milestones to celebrate along the way. first tooth, first word, first steps, the first day of kindergarten, high school, driver’s license, college graduation, and wedding.
last weekend i had the joy of watching our oldest son get married. yes! our family of five grew by one. now it’s six. i’m beyond thrilled to add another female to the roster. the playing field is a smidge more even with four men two women. hip, hip, hooray! but who’s counting, right?
as promised, here are the mother of the groom dresses i sourced. all three dresses were purchased from Halsbrook an online luxury retailer that carries a few of my favorite brands. good news! two out of three dresses are still available. the navy blue dress with flounced sleeves and tulip hem is the only one that is out of stock. the designer is Shoshanna.
another retailer that has a lovely selection of mother of the bride or groom dresses is BHLDN a division of Anthropologie.

nandita green floral dress | shoes
shoes are always of primary concern when putting together an outfit. special occasions are no different. metallics act as a neutral, so i always have gold and silver shoes at my beck and call. don’t forget shoes with embellishments like buckles or jewels are perfect for special occasions.

all major retailers have a lovely selection of special occasion dresses, including wedding party guests.
don’t forget what you wear underneath your mother of the groom dress is just as important as the dress itself. special occasions call for special lingerie.

Beautiful dress and a beautiful wedding!
Congratulations
All beautiful! Congratulations!!!
What is the secret lingerie. I have so many outfits that would look even better with the proper secret help.
Good question!
Beth – you looked beautiful in all three dresses! What a handsome family you have!!
Beautiful family! Love the wedding locale and decorations. Your dress choice was also my favorite of the three. Congratulations! I agree…It IS nice to have another woman in a family of men. Happy Mother’s Day!
Congratulations! I love all my daughters-in-law and my gifts have gotten much better since there are girls on the scene. Your boys are all gorgeous. The only thing that would have made this post sweeter is if you had included a picture of your family when the boys were young. Family is everything. Best wishes. You have modeled a long and happy marriage.
So pretty !! Congratulations ❤️
Thank you for sharing a special day. Love all three dresses and of course as always you look beautiful.
Your dress was perfect! I also liked the one with the champagne in front of your home fireplace. I
Happy Mothers Day to you.
tough choice between the cobalt blue and the dress you wore–but if you didn’t keep the cobalt blue dress (the one with you in front of the fire place and holding a champagne coupe) you should go back and get it!
I Agree!
What a beautiful place to hold an outdoor wedding! Everyone looked lovely. Your dress Beth, was perfect for the Mother of the Groom. A very happy occasion, celebrating with family and friends. Congratulations to the happy couple and happy Mother’s day to you as well Beth. Love your posts, although up her in Canada our weather isn’t as conducive to some of the clothes shown when they are shown. We’re still wearing jackets and sweaters when you are in shorts. Nevertheless still enjoy seeing them.

So funny that 2 of those are also on my shortlist! We have the same color scheme, and loved the BHOLDN lace dress!
Hi Beth, you look absolutely stunning in all the outfits. The Wedding venue looks amazing and I know both you and Mr Style will have had a tear in your eye at such a proud moment.
Hoping you are being spoilt this Mother’s Day. We celebrated Mothers Day March 31st here in England. Enjoy the rest of your day xo
Beautiful! Congratulations!

You look stunning and are truly an inspiration for me. I think you are classy and sassy. Happy Mother’s Day too.🌹
Loved your dress choices, Beth. You looked amazing. Of course, the bride and groom outshone you a little as that is the way it should be. Congratulations to you all on your expanded family.
Congratulations!! Stunning! You all look lovely!!
All three dresses were beautiful, but my favorite is the one you wore! Beautiful setting for a wedding. Congratulations on your new “daughter” !
Thank you for letting us share in this joyful day. Wishing your lovely djalali family lots of love and happiness.”

Happy Mother’s Day! You and your family of six are beautiful. Congratulations.
Beautiful site for the wedding! You looked stunning!
So happy for your and your beautiful family . Congratulations
Beautiful dresses, beautiful setting, cake looks so cool and I bet yummy. What a perfect day and a wonderful couple and family. So sweet of you to share. My girlfriends family had a rustic wedding, too and it was so much fun and beautiful.
Congratulations Beth! You look beautiful and very happy.
Congratulations to all on such a beautiful day. I have been Mother of the Bride twice …at my two daughters’ weddings and know how special those occasions are!
Love your dress choices.

I agree that the dress you chose is beautiful. You also need to keep the cobalt for a night out!
I love the dress you chose. I’m so happy for you and your family, what a beautiful wedding. Happy Mother’s Day!
You are lovely in all three, but I have to disagree. The blue one with the asymmetrical neckline was the best. It brings the eyes upward to your face and has energy. The navy was uniboob. The mint green dress was too matronly.
Hi Beth
Happy Mother’s Day! Thanks for sharing your special occasion. I like the dress you chose the best, although all three are lovely. What a handsome family!
Beautiful family, wonderful memory…gorgeous dresses..That cobalt blue was beyond fabulous on you!
Congratulations Beth, what handsome sons you have. Love the dress so floaty and romantic. Amazingly beautiful place to hold a wedding, the day must have been a dream. Best wishes from Australia.
Ps I have the same problem having opposite seasons to you guys, what to wear but still love your style.
Such a beautiful family!!
Thank you for sharing your beautiful day. Love all the dresses, and loved the one you chose.
You are an inspiration!
Welcome to Oregon! Glad the weather cooperated for you. I’m from Eugene and know exactly where your son got married. My son also had a destination wedding. We went to the Dominican Republic June 2018. It was a lovely beach setting. Blessing to the new couple and Happy Mother’s Day to you!
All three dresses look fabulous and I hope you bought all of them. I love Halsbrook and the way they put outfits together.
On another note I’m wondering why you don’t capitalize the beginning of each sentence. It would make reading your posts much more enjoyable.
Love them all! Considering the setting I think your choice was perfect! Thank you for sharing such a special day!
Beth, you looked absolutely stunning in the cobalt blue dress. Cobalt blue is one of my favourite colours. All the dresses were beautiful, but the cobalt blue was my favourite.
It looked to be a wonderful wedding, congratulations!
Love your style specially this lovely family event! Congratulations and blessings!
I love the dress you picked! You are so lucky to have those three beautiful sons. Congratulations!
Beth, how do you source the small images of dresses? When I click on them, it doesn’t take me to the site, it just wants to add them to a pinterest board. Thanks!
if you hover over the item at the bottom instead of the middle or top it should take you to the site. if you see the red Pinterest button then you need to slide your mouse further down. hope this helps! xo
YES! Thank you for your reply. I need a wedding guest dress and am having a terrible time. I was just clicking on the images too high up! Gotcha.
PS – I am getting the classic black one shoulder jumpsuit for future weddings. You can’t go wrong. Thank you so much for the post.
I absolutely love the dress you wore! It was so feminine and flattering. Perfect choice for the wedding. What a beautiful family you have and a lovely new daughter in law! Congratulations!
