all right, gang, today’s the day to share Nordstrom dressing room diaries with kelly and beth. last saturday my new daughter-in-law joined me for a day of shopping, fun and of course lunch. the day started early as we piled into my car and drove down to atlanta to shop the Nordstrom anniversary sale. the above outfit is what i wore for a jam-packed day of shopping – joggers, shoes, and linen shirt.
so many of you have written and shared how important it is for me to take care of myself while watching over mr. style. and i couldn’t agree more. self-care is a number one priority for me because if i’m not taking care of myself how can i take care of others? while my children were growing up my mother and i always made time for a girls day out filled with lots of giggles, power shopping, and lunch. and now i have the privilege of sharing similar days with my d-i-l kelly. don’t worry about mr. style as one of my dear friends stopped by to say hello with a frozen lemonade in hand. two of my kiddos spent the afternoon golfing while kelly and i shopped ’til we dropped. it was a fun day all around for the djalalis!
but i wanted to share a birds-eye view of the dressing room where kelly and i tried on a few of the items we found in-store. not everything made it home. yes, i showed some restraint! stay tuned to the video where i style the clothes i purchased. but i also spent some time shopping online as there’s a broader selection than in-store. those items should be delivered in a day or two. fingers crossed! as soon as i have those in my hot little hands, i’ll share another Nordstrom Anniversary Sale post. remember today; it’s still early access to the sale so you must have a Nordstrom card to shop. but the sale opens to the public this friday, july 19th.
a pair of Eileen Fisher boyfriend jeans caught my eye as did a gorgeous baby blue cashmere sweater.
initially, i tried on a size 8 in the denim then sized down to a 6.
pants | blouse
Nordstrom dressing room diaries with kelly and beth. both the sweater and blue jeans came home with me. kelly decided she could live without the pants and blouse.
kelly is a petite, the dress in a petite extra small but we both thought she should go down one size as the armholes gaped.
Nordstrom dressing room diaries with kelly and beth. the cashmere sweater and pants made it into my shopping cart. kelly is on the hunt for this dress in a smaller size. but the blazer came home with her.
kelly is trying on AG Jeans for the first time. she loved the fit. Vince was also a new brand to kelly, and she was favorably impressed with this striped cashmere sweater. the anniversary sale is a great way to ease into luxury brands if the sticker price is a shock to your system.
Nordstrom dressing room diaries with kelly and beth. the Spanx leggings fit like a dream! but they were a struggle to get on. the oversized sweater is from Free People. while i liked this outfit, neither item came home with me. kelly, on the other hand, loved her outfit and purchased both sweater and blue jeans.
Vince is a favorite luxury brand of mine. the black pants have a flattering fit and are on-trend with wide legs. the blouse is cut on the bias for a beautiful drape.
faux leather leggings | sweater
Nordstrom dressing room diaries with kelly and beth. kelly loved the Spanx faux leather leggings. me too! both of us bought a pair. the black pants are now mine too due to a flattering fit. and kelly decided to purchase the cashmere sweater.
menswear-inspired garments are on trend this fall. ruched sleeves too.
this single-breasted blazer is lightweight and the perfect transition piece from summer to fall. i styled this in the video, so stay tuned!
kelly loves to wear camouflage 365 days a year. but when these pants are paired with a cashmere sweater, it turns into the perfect fall outfit.
my love for coats, jackets, and blazers runs deep. here are a few coats i tried on that i loved but didn’t need.
Barbour is a luxury brand that’s worth every penny.
Sam Edelman is known for his fabulous shoes. now he’s adding coats into the mix. this single-breasted wool-blend coat comes in three colors – black, yellow and blue.
the afternoon ended with a lovely lunch that included a glass of chilled champagne and red wine. cheers!
there you have it, ladies! a fun-filled day spent with loved ones. let me know what you’ve found this year at the Nordstrom anniversary sale. happy wednesday! it’s time to go put a smile on someone’s face, including yours.

Nice choices! I’m with you–I’m sure I’d have gone for the more subdues, classic pieces. You could always put pops of color with some of these in a scarf, or shoes/bag, or a sweater or jacket over a shoulder, etc, too. They all look great. I’ve got a pair of faux leather leggings and now that my knees aren’t horribly painful any more, I’m going to experiment with them more than I have in the past.
Love all your purchases and how hairstyles tbem!
Hi! I loved your choices of footwear in your video. I may need to take another look before purchasing what’s currently in my cart.
Hi Beth. You got some great items. I love all the cashmere, but they were sold out of all the colors I wanted. But I did get the faux leather leggings and can’t wait to wear them. I also got a Bernardo dark jade packable puffer coat, a Halogen bishop sleeve marino wool sweater in red, and a pair of NYDJ straight leg jeans. They were really a good savings! I may go back an explore the Vince black pants (like I need one more pair of black pants)! But they looked good on you.
Such fun! All the best to you and your family, and special prayers for Mr. Style.
Gotta say, your haircut is perfection!!! Can’t wait to see your styling video!
Good job, girls! Everything looked S-O nice on each of you. Keep it all I say.
So glad you both had a lovely day.
Keeping Mr. Style, you and yours, in my thoughts & prayers as you move forward.
Lovely to see you enjoying time with your daughter in law- it’s fun having someone to shop with. And thanks for showing that Sam Edelman cost- I’m in love with the blue and rather tempted to buy all the way from over here in New Zealand!
* coat not cost!! Note to self- wear glasses when typing
What a fun way to bond with your new daughter in law. It looks like it was all a great lot of fun! 😃
Beth!! You looked amazing in all of your Nordstrom outfits. They were all a hit, but the wide leg pants, wide black belt and the gorgeous blue/teal blouse was my favorite. Stunning, and a perfect fit. Thank you for showing how to wear the faux leather legging in such a way as not to appear “trying to look too young.” They looked tasteful and chic. Such a fun video Beth; wishing you and your family God’s blessings. HUGS.
Gorgeous, as usual! Beth, what is the nail polish color you are wearing? LOVE
Beth I love everything you styled! We are all going to be wearing the faux leather leggings, I love them! Kelly looked wonderful in all her petite choices. I would say you had a successful day of shopping!
I noticed that Nordstrom no longer steams the clothing before putting it on the racks. I am disappointed that they no longer make the clothing look appealing. I would have bought the Sam Edelman coat but it was such a wrinkled mess I decided not to buy it!
That was a fun post. Loved seeing all the different clothes you tried on. I am waiting for my on-line order from Nordstrom to arrive.
Great to see Kelly on your trip. I too am petite small or petite xs. Sometimes I like an outfit I see on You Beth only to find it doesn’t come in petite. Loved Kelly’s jeans and striped sweater. Hope we get to see her more. And Beth the drapey black pants and bias cut blouse were luscious on you.
What a fun post and video Beth! I absolutely love menswear (my favorite new show is Instinct because Alan Cumming wears the most fantastic menswear!) My picks of your purchases was the long glen plaid blazer and the black Vince pants. What was that fab top you wore with the black pants? It is gorgeous. I look forward to the next installment and a chance to see more of your adorable daughter-in-law.
Liked how you styled your purchases. Love your haircut. Looking a little different, 👍👍
I love your having a petite model (your d-i-l) styling these classics! Please use often.
I enjoyed both the blog posting and the video. Looking forward to seeing you style your online purchases as well!
I loved the joggers you shopped in. The ankle length and the shoes were perfect.
I also love neutrals! However I am very fair and my hair is white so I am trying to add more color especially close to my face as I tend to look washed out. One of my favorite pieces was the gold blouse that your dil first tried on. I hope she reconsenders as it lit up her face beautifull. I also like the gold coat you tried on. I will look for the relaxed jeans that you purchased. Love! thanks, Beth!
So wish you had bought the yellow coat. It was fabulous on you. Can’wait to see what else is coming.
Agree!
Hi Beth, Greetings from another university town: College Station, Texas. I am so excited to see you and your daughter-in-law out shopping together! Y’all are cute! Moreover, I am a very petite ( 5’ , about 105) and curvy but closer to your age! Perhaps she could be your petite model for you! I share your esthetic completely and loved the part where she was the complete mirror of you ( petite version) in the leggings and cashmere sweater! Great! Love your blog and channel!
Agree!
How fun! And loved Kelly’s leopard slides!
Just curious as to how tall you are. Loving the try ons!
