today’s post is a departure from my usual ootd (outfit of the day). although i am wearing a fab exercise ensemble from athleta that is chic, comfortable, and functional to wear. stripe leggings y’all! and i think i could live in this grey cozy karma sweater for the foreseeable future. but back to the subject at hand. if you follow me on Instagram and watched a recent Instastory you know that this year is all about my fitness journey. yes, i turn sixty in august and i know this will be an amazing decade. i don’t know about you, but i’m just getting started! but i also know that my quality of life is not only a gift but is contingent on a healthy lifestyle; regular exercise and nutrition. and this is the part of my life that needs to be tweaked – eating healthy foods. the past two years have been crazy, busy, fun, and demanding. by the time dinner rolled around mr. style and i would look at each other and ask “what’s for dinner?” believe me that is the last question to ask when you’re hungry because inevitably you will stuff anything into your mouth – good or bad. okay, mostly bad. can anyone relate? it was time to stop and regain control of my life.
while doing a little research on the subject of fitness and nutrition i discovered Amanda’s Faster Way to Fat Loss and was intrigued. this is a program that changes women’s lives by incorporating great workouts with intermittent fasting and carb cycling. you can read more about her program here.
well, i’m game for just about anything so when i saw that Amanda offered a convenient six-week program that would jump-start my fitness journey i signed up. after two weeks on Amanda’s program, i’ve seen results. not only do i feel better than i have in several years, but i have more energy, and my body is slowly changing. what i love best about this program is that it educates me on the proper way to fuel my body. when to load up on carbs and when to scale back. yes, i’m finally learning how to nourish my body properly. i guess you can teach an old dog new tricks. that is if you’re game.
this program is also about progress, not perfection. and it’s flexible. it doesn’t matter if you’re a travel bug, have a demanding job, work the night shift, have an injury (like my knee injury from college), have no cooking skills, or no gym membership. don’t even think about claiming you’re too old. the most important thing we can do as we age is to take care of our bodies. the amount of muscle mass we lose each year is astonishing. if we don’t use them, we will lose them. but the great thing about FASTer Way To Fat Loss is you can make it work with your lifestyle! and there’s an amazing online community with like-minded women cheering you every step of the way. our coaches are educational and motivating and answer any and all questions.
i’m guessing right about now you might have some questions about FASTer Way to Fat Loss. here goes:
okay, now that some of your questions have been answered let’s take a peek at the new home gym that i painted razzle dazzle pink!
currently, i work with weights that range from three to ten pounds. plus, a twenty-pound kettle ball. eventually, i will add twelve, fifteen and maybe twenty-pound weights into the rotation. one of my kiddos put together a weight bench for me. this makes it easy for me to zip through my pec flies. oscar is sharing his treadmill with me so i can fit in cardio at home. (don’t all dogs workout on a treadmill?).
here are a few photos from the past two weeks that chronicle my progress, starting with prep week.

okay, i guess you would say i’m hooked on Amanda’s program. which is why i am sharing it with you today. many of you have asked how i’m tweaking my fitness routine because you noticed a change. well, if you are interested you can change your lifestyle too.
The next round of FASTer Way to Fat Loss starts on February 5!

Hi Beth. I turn 62 next Tuesday. Back in November – I finally joined a gym and have been working out with a trainer. My 40th college reunion is in May and I’m determined to look as good as I did for our 25th reunion (ok … maybe the 30th reunion!) Thanks for sharing your journey with us!
that is fantastic! and i bet you feel as great as you look. just don’t overlook nutrition because working out and eating the right foods go hand in hand. have fun at your 40th reunion!

I’m 60 and have been doing Bar Method for the past 5 years. I’ve had 2 ACL 2 meniscus surgeries on the left knee and wrist surgery! This exercise builds long lean muscle and they offer modifications for injuries.
My orthopedic surgeon suggested I go to Bar Method, he sent Seahawk NFL players to Bar Method for post op exercise!
I believe you need to find something that you’ll do consistently. I do Bar class 4-5 times a week and golf 2-3 times a week.
Good luck exercise is the fountain of youth.
exercise is key! thanks so much for sharing your success. and, yes, you have to find an exercise routine that suits you. thank goodness we have a few choices these days.

Looking good, Beth! I’m 71 about to be 72 in March… I need to start moving again! Thnx for the inspiration!
exercise is key to a healthy lifestyle. we have to move it or we’ll lose it. and who wants that?!

Good for you–I like the room you set up! That’ll inspire you to keep up since you’re right there to use it. I like your shoes–are they Nikes?
the shoes are Nike. very comfortable to wear during a workout. i’m glad you like my home gym! it’s the perfect space to lift those weights.

thanks! I thought they were. I just bought some new Nikes and they look similar–I needed a new pair.
Curious. Are you looking to lose, tone or both? You look great, what will will happen with your extensive wardrobe? Having said that you are inspiring me to move again and gain control over my 61 year old self.
hi terri! great question. one aspect i love about this program is that it is a lifestyle. it’s teaching me proper ways to fuel my body and how to properly combine nutrition with exercise. the two go hand-in-hand. it doesn’t count calories but it balances macros – proteins, fats, and carbs because we need all three to be fit and healthy.
for me, i’m no stranger to working out and have been in shape and out of shape. and i happen to love being in shape because it feels so good, my energy level is high, and i sleep well at night. and i never have to worry about losing muscle mass. so i was happy to find this program to help me get back on track. i’m so happy you signed up! let me know your progress, thoughts, etc… i know you will love it as much as i do!

Oh! Just registered for the Feb 5 Bootcamp! Thanks for being a role model.
FINALLY! You explained what “ootd” is in this post. Never knew, never asked. Thanks again!
