when in doubt reach for the basics. these are the workhorses hanging in your closet that go with everything. back in january, i wrote a series that touched on this topic. read the first post here. i don’t know about you but a white blouse always makes it onto my all-star list. some think a white blouse is humdrum. for me, a white blouse is anything but boring. on the contrary, it’s one of the most versatile items in my closet and there are so many variations. like this cotton tunic from J.Crew. it’s the perfect silhouette all the way from spring into fall. it’s cool and crisp even on a hot summer day.
this time of year my beloved blue jeans typically take a brief hiatus. but if i want to wear a casual chic outfit, i exchange my blue jeans for chinos. this pair from J.Crew has a high rise waist and a slim straight leg. this is a flattering cut but size down as they tend to run large. chinos also make my basics list as these hard-working pants can be dressed up with a blazer or dressed down with a simple shirt or tee as in today’s ootd.

cute tunic and pants. I agree–a white shirt is always versatile. I like the bag and sandals with those chinos.
I bought the white tunic and the blue striped one as well in the spring. They are about all I’ve worn this summer. I live in Virginia and it is hot outside but places of business are so cold so they are perfect. They are nice over shorts too.
