I loaded the Tik Tok app and created my own @JennySueMakeup account back when Covid started in March of 2020. I only did it to keep myself busy and entertain my kids when we were all homebound! It was entertaining, no doubt. But now the only reason I ever glance at TikTok is to pick up some new and innovative ways to do makeup…of course! So today I have 5 Popular TikTok Makeup Hacks for Women of Every Age.
Honestly I’m not a huge fan of some of the things that pop up on my feed and prefer to be on Instagram. If you’re not already following me on Instagram, please do! I’d love to have you there.
But every now and then I have been very delighted to come upon a quick video of a makeup tip that blows my mind over on TikTok - people are VERY creative over there. And it makes me wonder why I’d never thought of that! Ha!
So in today’s post, I want to share with you 5 of the very best TikTok makeup hacks that I’ve come across in the past 6 months. These are all simple to implement and every single one of them is worth you giving a try at least once! Most of them are fairly subtle in their outcomes, but sometimes even the smallest change with our makeup can make a big impact on a face!

It’s as simple as mixing your primer directly INTO your liquid foundation before you apply to the face. Why? Well for one you will most likely use less foundation and it turns out it can make your skin look really smooth and extend the wear of your liquid foundation! I didn’t believe this would go well, but I was surprisingly pleased. I mixed the ever popular Milk Makeup Hydro Grip Primer, $38, in with my L’Oreal Age Perfect Radiant Serum Foundation, $16, and just mixed them onto my hand. (I’m wearing shade 35 Nude Beige here )
It looks absolutely wonderful and I’m now going to start trying to mix and match more of my primers and foundations because it eliminates a step!
If you have normal to drier skin, and haven’t given the Milk Hydro Grip a chance, do it! Feels so comfortable and hydrating with great lock power. If you’re on the oilier skin side, I’d suggest Laura Mercier’s Pure canvas Blurring Primer, $47 as it will totally keep all shine at bay and def blur larger pores.
Grab your pink blush and your favorite concealer. Yes I said pink blush. This is basically a color correcting technique when you use a pink, peach, or coral blush along with your concealer because these shades are perfect for canceling out unwanted blueish-gray tints underneath the eyes. You might be shocked to find out that one of my faves right now costs only $7 bucks - it’s Sheglam Color Bloom blush in shade “Love Cake.” This is a liquid blush with a super handy sponge applicator that you can easily dot onto your cheeks and it blends in like a dream. I want ALL the colors!
Now you could also use a powder blush as well for this to work if you prefer.
The idea is to apply your concealer that is closest to your actual skin color (not too light though - I’m wearing Laura Mercier’s brand new Real Flawless Weightless concealer in shade 2N1, $33) on the inner and outer corners of the lower eye bed leaving the center bare. Then you are to put a tiny dot of pink blush in the center and then swipe them all together from the outside working towards the inside.
The pink in the center distracts from the darkness but feels less heavy than applying the same concealer shade along the entire under eye. I’ve recently bought and used a very affordable concealer brush I’m loving by Real Techniques, $7, if you’re in the market for one. You all know I don’t love using my fingers to apply anything cream! (just a personal thing)
I went even a step further with the pink theme and added my delicious smelling “Cherry Blossom” Huda Beauty Easy Bake loose powder, $38, over the concealer for extra color correcting! I featured this powder in a previous post here on SAACA, “Dark Circles Be Gone! Embrace The Power Of Pink” if you’d like to check it out.
I was very wary of this one - but once again, it worked perfectly! So many women struggle with exactly where to apply their blush, and this helps takes the mystery out of that. You just need your hand, your fave blush, and a small fluffy blush brush. I don’t like big ones, it’s a small area so you need a small blush brush - I’m using the Lancome #7 Tapered contour brush, $40.
How to do it : You place your thumb and first finger and stretch them in a V or more of a checkmark shape. Then depending on which side of your face you’re working with, take the thumb and place along top of the ear then the first finger should lay right against the side of your nose. *note the photo of me and hand placement for a better grasp*
Then apply the blush (I’m using Buxom “Dolly” mauve blush here, $23, such a good wearable color!) in a circular motion right along the top of the thumb by the temple and into the middle of the V you’ve created. Pull your hand away then soften up the edges with your blush brush. Your blush will be sitting up high on your cheekbone which is the trend right now and give you just the right amount of blush in the perfect spot!
I actually have an Instagram reel I did awhile back with a similar vibe to this hack. It’s all about how to maximize your eyelash curler and mascara, by adding in a secret ingredient - translucent loose powder!
On TikTok, the girl first shows herself curling her bare lashes, then applying a light coat of mascara. Next, she takes her eyelash curler and applies a good bit of loose translucent powder into the center of the two pieces of the lash curler. Then she recurls the lashes at the base, middle, and tips, then applies her 2nd coat of mascara. The end result is wide-awake eyes and crazy long-looking lashes!
The powder addition to the lash curler is to keep your mascara from sticking to the curler and pulling hairs out with it. The powder also adds a bit of fullness to your lashes because a small amount stays attached to the first coat of mascara so when the 2nd coat of mascara is applied, it makes them appear full and lifted.
I used my Laura Mercier translucent powder dupe that is from Wet n Wild Photofocus powder, $7, for this hack along with my Shiseido eyelash curler (iconic best of the best tool!). I also used the Lancome Lash Idole mascara, $30.
You’ll need your bronzer - liquid or powder will work. This one is super easy and surprisingly effective. Jennifer Lopez’s makeup artist Scott Barnes is well known for always doing this to make her lips appear fuller than they are.
I used the e.l.f. Halo Glow Contour Wand in shade light/medium, $9 to pull this off. I love that it’s liquid so it soaked in and looked very realistic. It also has a smaller cushion tip than most liquid contour wands which makes it easier for exact application. All you have to do is create a shadow underneath the perimeter of the lower lip and then also above the upper lip perimeter, with a couple thin swipes of your bronzer.
The key is to just keep it within the center of both and not take the shadow all the way to the corners of the mouth. Make sure your bronzer is only about 2-3 shades darker than your natural skin tone - way too dark looks jarring and fake. Once you apply it just lightly buff it into the skin.
It’s a subtle look but definitely gives the illusion of a fuller pout by creating those shadows! Add to that fuller looking lip by then adding on a lip color that shines and reflects light! I added my very favorite plumping gloss by Buxom in shade “Negroni,” $25. It’s a gorgeous sheer nude beige with a hint of pink. Highly suggest this shade if you love a neutral gloss.
The rest of my outfit details: Loft Striped V neck balloon sleeve sweater, (on sale, $24) | Similar Beaded Tassel earrings, $12 | Patrick Ta Major Dimension Eyeshadow palette, $70.
