Start Exfoliating (if you haven’t already). After months of wintery cold temps, this season can leave us with dry itchy skin. Spring is an ideal time to start exfoliating which can help brighten dull skin that accumulated during the winter months.
A liquid exfoliant is a great way to get rid of that dull winter complexion without using harsh abrasive physical exfoliants. Make sure not to overdo it which does the opposite and can make your skin irritated! Most dermatologists recommend exfoliating only one to two times a week depending on how your skin can handle it.
MY PICK: I am a long-time advocate of the Paula’s Choice 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant, $34. It’s one of the few skincare products I constantly repurchase because it actually WORKS. If you’re looking for smoother skin and less noticeable pores, this is the product you should try! It’s a reasonable price point and delivers high-end results. Apply with a cotton round after washing your face, then proceed with your anti-aging skincare routine.
The next step is to switch from that heavy moisturizer you might have been using during the drier winter months and go for a lighter-weight moisturizer formula. As the temps and humidity rise (especially with southern-based gals like Beth and me in Georgia!), we may not need such heavy occlusive winter products that can read more sticky and greasy come spring. Switching towards a gel-based or lighter cream formula, will absorb quickly into the skin and feel better.
MY PICK: One of my new fave moisturizers for spring and summer is the Laneige Water Bank Blue Hyaluronic Cream Moisturizer, $40. A lightweight yet lush cream that visibly firms and strengthens the skin's moisture barrier with squalene and the plumping ingredient of hyaluronic acid.
Springtime is when most of us want to get out of that pale winter rut and start sporting that warm summer glow – without the harmful rays of the sun! Finding a good liquid bronze product can help even out skin tone and provide a realistic glow before any other skin makeup is applied.
MY PICKS: Lately I’ve been reaching for this L’Oreal Lumi Glotion, $15. It has been around for YEARS and for good reason! I’ve owned ALL the shades. Recently I have been loving the warm glow that the color “deep” gives me. Even though I’m naturally more of a light to medium skin tone, using a sheer wash of “deep” gives me the most realistic, naturally enhanced warmth that looks beautiful underneath my tinted moisturizers and foundations.
It can be applied with a foundation brush or your fingers. Be sure to look into this product that gets almost a perfect 5-star rating on most retailer websites.
I’m sure you’ve heard of the extremely popular Drunk Elephant D Bronzi Sunshine drops, $38. If you’re a clean beauty brand gal, this is the perfect product for getting that bronzed glow. Snatch them up when you can. They sell out constantly! I did a YouTube video HERE showing off exactly how you should use this product.
Even though some skin could go with just a liquid bronzer to even out skin tone, I always go a step further with a foundation. Of course, as we spend more time in the sun, it’s a must to wear one that includes a high SPF. Even a sheer coat of foundation, lighter CC cream, or tinted moisturizer, can provide that extra bit of coverage. Evening-out aging skin WHILE ALSO protecting from the dreaded age spots we get from sun exposure.
MY PICK: You ladies know that I am a big fan of this drugstore foundation and have talked about it a lot on here before. From L’Oreal (probably my favorite drugstore brand if you haven’t noticed!), it's the Age Perfect Radiant Serum Foundation, $11. It has an SPF of 50, which is incredible and one of the reasons I love it! Not to mention the fact that it gives beautiful skin with its lightweight formula, doesn’t settle into wrinkles and provides good hydration for drying aging skin with Vitamin B3. I’m wearing shade 40, "Natural Buff” here.
If you prefer an even lighter-weight foundation look, I’d highly suggest trying out the Ilia Super Serum Skin Tint with SPF 40, $48. This is a good “clean” beauty option. It's an award-winning tinted serum with light, dewy coverage, mineral SPF, and potent levels of skincare ingredients!
I fully support women using concealer - it’s a fantastic way to brighten a dull complexion or dark circles that can draw a face down. Recently, I was influenced to try a drugstore concealer that was promising for mature skin. I was blown away! It gave great coverage, dried down quickly, and gave me little to no creasing throughout the day! I didn’t even need to add a setting powder to this concealer - which I liked. I’ve been truly amazed by its ability to cover with very little product. It's the perfect spring and summer product.
MY PICK: Who knew a drugstore concealer would deliver such fabulous results?! I highly recommend anyone try this NYX Can’t Stop Won’t Stop concealer, under $10. I picked up the shade “Vanilla,” and by tapping it into the darkest hollows of my eye beds, it immediately brightens after using my Anisa Beauty All Over Fan brush, $32. This is the perfect brush for giving your concealer an airbrushed effect. It’s considered a 24hr wear concealer so once you apply it, you can forget about it!
Guess what?? There is also a concealer out there that even includes SPF to protect that delicate eye bed area! These are hard to find, but this one by Cle De Peau, $65, is SPF 27. It’d be a great idea to add this on the upper eye bed skin before eyeshadow, to even out that skin tone and protect.
These are just a few of the many makeup products that can help you achieve pretty spring skin as a mature woman. Remember, the key is to focus on products that enhance your natural beauty without feeling heavy or overdone. With a little bit of experimentation, and trying my 5 Ways to Transition Your Skin to Springtime, you're sure to find the perfect combination of products to help you look and feel your best this spring!

The Paula’s Choice Exfoliant is a great product.
Jennifer, thank you so much for the video on how to correctly apply bronzer. I’ve never been sure what the best way to apply is. I’ll also be looking for the NYX concealer and brush you used. Thanks for all the work you do!
