It’s no secret that one of the ways that many pro makeup artists get their client's skin to actually glow, without the use of highlighting products, is to add in a face oil. And not just any face oil. Find one that contains Vitamin C, which is the most powerful ingredient to help boost collagen production in older skin.
Rihanna’s makeup artist @prisclinnaono says this is the perfect hack for this time of year to give gorgeous luminous skin while also hydrating it.
The Sunday Riley C.E.O. Glow Face Oil, $80, is the most incredible choice. Not only is it high in advanced Vitamin C, but also contains turmeric and evening primrose to brighten, hydrate and of course glow! This is a skincare must have for mature faces IMO.

You can apply a good layer before your foundation, or, if you’re super dry, add a few drops in with your fave foundation and mix on the back of your hand then apply directly to the skin! I have mixed the oil with a drugstore fave here, Maybelline Matte + Poreless Fit Me foundation, $8, in shade 220.
Most women say that they omit eyeliner because they just can’t get it right. But do know, that using liner can make a huge difference when it comes to eyes that seem to disappear, (especially if you wear glasses). So try these great tips! I’m wearing Peepers C’est La Vie readers, $29 in red.
Celebrity makeup artists @SandhyaShekar and 76-year-old artist @SandyLinter (who has worked with Cheryl Tiegs and Christie Brinkley) have some great tips for eyeliner on older eyes. Start off using two different shades of liner- one light and one dark. And two different formulas - a pencil liner and a liquid.
Begin with a soft kohl-like pencil in your lightest shade - a brown or gray shade, to draw along the upper lash line. Immediately take a good thin eyeliner brush, $31, and stroke it over that line to buff out the edges, creating a soft smudged look that makes harsh jagged edges disappear!
Now take a waterproof black pencil (your darkest) and swipe it along the underneath of the upper waterline. The Laura Mercier Caviar tightliners,$27, are good for this slightly wet area so it doesn’t transfer. This helps to truly darken the lash line so that no skin is showing thru the upper lash hairs, thus giving the illusion of a darker and fuller lash line. But by using the black only in the waterline, it gives structure without looking harsh. I’m using shades “Bronze” (brown) and “Tuxedo” (black) from the line.
Now, if you want to really make eyes pop, grab an easy to use liquid liner like Maybellines Hyper Easy liner, $10. Use it to line directly over the smudged pencil to give a bit more structure without needing to be perfect with your line because the previous technique of smudged liner distracts from it! Shadow palette used in this look is Patrick TA Major Dimension Eyeshadow, $70.
@PatrickTa has worked with the likes of Gigi Hadid and Salma Hayek, and also has his own brand of makeup, Patrick Ta Beauty. Here is one of his favorite ways to sculpt a face and bring it to life! I rely on his Patrick Ta Double Take cream + powder blushes, $36, that include a matching powder and creme version in the same palette. I’m using his duo blush in the neutral bright pink shade, “She’s A Doll,” for this look.
He starts with the powder blush first, to focus on bringing color into the complexion. He reminds us to pay attention to placement for a more lifted look, by applying the blush right were you’d almost apply a highlighter. So pretty high up on the cheekbones and bringing it almost to the temples using a smaller-scale blush brush.
Then you reach for his cream formula to melt the powder product in and give you the color that looks like its coming from within the skin. The key is for your blush color you use to not be too silvery or cool - go for a shade with a bit of warmth to it.
Best to use an egg sponge that is slightly damped with water on the large end, then stipple the cream right on top of the powder. This wil give the look of dewy skin while also giving the illusion of a projected cheekbone. By layering the two, you’ll also get extreme staying power!
Yes, you can still wear Christmas red lipstick with mature lips - just do these things before you apply. Helen Mirrens makeup artist and L’Oreals Global Makeup Director, @TheValGarland takes the following steps before she works with her and they’re genius!
Because our lips are thin and tend to get a few wrinkles popping up around the perimeter of the mouth, do this to keep the red from traveling.
Start by applying a pore-minimizing primer around your mouth. I used the e.l.f. Poreless Putty Primer, $10. Then, instead of a traditional lip liner, use a light brow pencil to line just right outside the natural lip line! This actually creates a natural-looking shadow around the mouth that gives a fuller appearance. Trust me, this works.
You could also use a powder bronzer as well with a small eyeshadow brush if you don’t have the light brow pencil. I’m using “cool taupe” in The Brow Down To Me pencil by Joah Beauty, $9. Then choose a creamy, satin, or velvet red lipstick to fill in. I’m a sucker for this Fenty Beauty Icon Velvet Liquid lip shade, The MVP, $29 which is gorgeous and non-drying with its whipped formula.
I’m in love with my green puffy sleeved sweater, $69, from the LOFT. It’s the perfect compliment to a red lip don’t you think! So which makeup trick are you going to try first?
