If you don’t already own a nude eyeliner, you’re going to be running to your local drugstore or adding one to cart online after you read this post! Did you know there are multiple ways you can use this one product in your everyday makeup routine? And it is not JUST for the eyes.
When you think of eyeliner, I’m sure shades of brown and black are the first thing that pop into your head. But if you’ve never tried nude, you need to. Today I want to show how easy it is to use a nude (or sometimes white) eyeliners into your own makeup routine to level up your look!
I’m going to show all the spots to apply nude eyeliner, while also wearing the hot makeup trend right now, the “Latte Makeup” look. Which is essentially a warm, bronzed, milky aesthetic. Perfect as we head into the fall months pretty soon. Think a makeup look that isn’t too perfect. Just very soft applications of various shades of brown on the eyes, cheeks (just bronzer, no blush), and lips.
But don’t forget a bit of warm vanilla creamer highlighter! This coffee inspired look can be worn by all skin tones. It is a great way to embrace natural beauty and neutral tones. Check my exact products at the very end of this post if you’re interested in how to steal the look.

Okay let’s get into the nude eyeliner tricks. I’m sure you’ll be shocked and amazed how just a few swipes and strokes of this neutral color can shape shift your face. I’ll be using two different nude liners in these tutorials. Flower Beauty “Moonstone” Forever Wear eye lightener, $10, and tarte Fake Awake liner in “nude,” $24.
How to: Take your nude *or white* eyeliner and simply swipe that color all the way across the lower inner waterline of the eye. The brightness shows up instantly and makes you look more awake. It takes away any natural pink or redness in the waterline. And it gives the illusion of a larger white space in the eyeball. I’m using the Flower Beauty “Moonstone” Forever Wear Eye Lightener, $10 here.
How to: If you want to illuminate any eyeshadow look, just opt for adding your nude liner into the inner corners , around the outside area of the tear duct. Most think they have to add a shimmery shadow here. But a matte ivory pencil does the same trick and is honestly easier to apply in such a small tight area. I use my pinky finger to gently press the liner around this area to soften the lines and make it look like a soft light is emitting from that area!
How to: I switched to a slightly deeper nude pencil for this as you want it to blend as closely as possible to my natural skin color. So I’m using the tarte Fake Awake pencil in “nude,” $24, here. A pencil is the ultimate way to camouflage a small blemish or dark age spot on the face. That's because of its small tip and waxy formula that grips easier to these spots as opposed to concealer. If you have darker skin, NYX Cosmetics has multiple darker skin options in their Wonder Pencil here, $7.50, for camouflaging.
I have somehow escaped the age spots at 46. But I am starting to really see my marionette lines deepend. So to blur those, I drew the nude pencil right on the inside of my marionette lines around my mouth. Then with the included smudge tip, I pressed it into the lines until it was blurred and lightened up the crevices. It’s not a miracle worker, but do try this on deeper face lines. It softens them a good bit and gives the illusion of those deep lines not being so deep and dark!
How to: I switched back to the Flower Beauty pencil and sketched a line right underneath and along the entirety of my eyebrow, focusing a bit thicker right underneath the arch area. Then I blended and softened it into the skin with my mini flat concealer brush, $7, to diffuse it and give me a lifted brow bone look. This is a great way to give a sculpted brow look with minimal effort.
How to: I took the Flower Beauty pencil again. And drew a short line just down the very center bridge of my nose. And then put a small dot right at the end. Do NOT take the nude liner all the way down the nose to the dot, as this will elongate the nose. You need to break up the pencil points. This is a much easier way to create structure than trying to use dark contour products like bronzer. And shading the sides of the nose which can look too obvious. This is very subtle, but adds a highlight in the center of the nose and tip. This draws the eye inward and creates a bit of dimension and structure.
For the eyes I used my fave Makeup by Mario Master Mattes palette, $50, which has every shade of warm coffee browns you could ask for! My skin is kept light and airy with Maybelline Super Stay 24 hr skin tint , $13, in shade 220 and Milk Makeup Future Fluid Concealer, $30, in shade 6C
For my bronzed cheeks, I used the L’Oreal Infallible bronzer, $15, in shade light/medium. It's one of the best bronzers (drugstore or prestige) I’ve used by far. I swirled 3 of the 4 shades of the iconic Dior Backstage Glow Palette, $48, the pink, gold, and bronzed shades, onto my cheekbones, but omitted the white strobe shade. If you haven’t bought this palette yet, what are you waiting for?? It has so many uses! I also swiped the beautiful bronzed shade with an eye shadow brush along my lower lash line for a pop of warm highlight. The most perfect latte lips are thanks to Buxom Full on Plumping lip cream, in shade “Pumpkin Pie Latte,” $25. How appropriate right??!!
If you ever apply eyeshadow, you MUST use this first if you want your eye makeup to stay longer and the shadows to perform better. It’s a super lightweight shadow base in an easy to use wand. And creates a seamless canvas on your lids. This is like second nature to apply this in my makeup routine. I will NOT go without using this product, ever. Eyeshadow on bare lids is a no- no in my makeup artist book.
My outfit details: Navy flutter sleeve tops are perfect heading into fall and here are some similar ones here from Amazon, $25, here from Tuckernuck, $88, and Nordstrom here, $42. // Free People barrel jeans, $98, these are a hot new denim style that come in multiple shades. // Layered necklace duo of dainty pearl choker, $80, and coin necklace, $27. // My large gold waterdrop Amazon earrings, $12. // Chain slide sandals, $48.
