Our family of 5 FINALLY got to go on a much-needed beach vacation together this past week. With three kids whose summer schedules have been all over the place - my 18-year-old who has a summer job and is already taking college classes, and my 16 and 14-year-old who play summer sports - baseball + volleyball) we only had a short 4-day window together at the beach!
So we made the most of our time and stayed in our state of Georgia to take a close road trip to St. Simons at the King + Prince Resort for a little respite. I know there is still quite a bit of summer left, but school for my kids starts back in just a little under 3 weeks!! Luckily we do have another beach trip planned for the end of August that I’m already looking forward to around Labor Day though.
*If you haven’t checked out my curated beauty picks post highlighting the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale currently going on, be sure to click on it and see what is still available until August 4th when it closes! Even though this is a summer-centered post, it is exciting to look forward to the fall season and grabbing those exclusive deals.*
I know for some, wearing makeup at the beach might seem unnecessary. But not for someone like me. I like wearing makeup wherever and whenever - even if I am surrounded by sea and sand!
So I figured this would be a good time to give you a quick glimpse into how I switch up my beauty bag for beach time. It’s certainly quite different from my fall and winter beauty collection and overall leans more : lightweight in coverage, creamier product formulas (which are easier to reapply), a warmer color palette, and lots of sunscreen. I guess you could say my “resting beach face” has a “less-is-more” vibe than I usually go for when back home!

If you have some beach trips on the horizon, here is my curated collection of beauty products that could give you some inspiration for things to add to your beach bag if you’re headed for a little rest and relaxation soon…
Self Tanner: Jergens Instant Sun Ultra Deep Bronze Self Tanning Mousse, $14. I of course prepped my skin before we left, because 1. My swimsuits always look better with a slight tan on the first day and 2. I wear so much sunscreen when I’m laying by the ocean, that getting much of a real tan isn't gonna happen. Even though the St. Tropez tanning mousse will always be my holy grail, this Jergens one is a close and a super affordable second place! I even took it with me to keep up my fake glow. And of course a tanning mitt, $6, because that’s the very best way to get a streak free application.
Face: Glow Recipe Watermelon Glow Dew Balm SPF 45, $30 + Pacifica Beauty Sunny Glow Bronzing Drops, $16 + Rare Beauty Positive Light Under Eye Brightener, $24. This made for a stellar combo before I stepped onto the beach. The glowy serum + SPF in stick form made it oh so easy to use and reapply, and gives my skin enough hydration along with the hyaluronic acid and niacinamide this stick includes. And by adding a few of these bronzing drops on top of my SPF prepared skin, I got a great warm glow that felt fresh and light. Of course, I wouldn’t even go to the resort pool without having a little bit of concealer on. And this eye brightener is the most undetectable concealer product ever - it brightens just enough and is super thin but powerful - I wear shade light-medium.
Eyes: L’Oreal Lash Paradise Waterproof mascara, $12, + Urban Decay Naked Reloaded palette, $50 + Anastasia Beverly Hills DipBrow Waterproof Pomade, $23. This Lash Paradise in the waterproof formula was a game changer - it didn’t budge on me all day going from beach to pool, and back and forth in the humidity and heat! Also the AB brow pomade stays better on my brows than a pencil when I’m hot. Of course shadow was kept at a minimum except for some dinners out, but I have been using this Reloaded palette more and more because of its warm brown options and beautiful shimmery bronzes, golds, and champagnes that seems to go with any beach outfit I put on.
Cheeks + Lips: Tarte Benetint Lip and Cheek Stain in “Flora Tint”, $21 + Aquaphor lip repair stick with SPF 30, $8 + Clarins Lip Comfort Oil, $30 + YSL Candy Glaze Lipgloss stick, $42. Here’s an insider makeup hack thanks to celeb makeup artist Scott Barnes. Definitely swipe on the Aquaphor lip repair underneath your favorite lip product of any sort, to protect your lips from the sun. Great. But also, have you tried applying it underneath your delicate eye beds BEFORE you apply any concealer?? It not only hydrates and protects the sensitive under eye area, but it also makes your concealer go on so much smoother!! I’ve tried it, and now I do it daily.
And a cheek stain will always stay better and look more natural at any beach location than a powder blush. This one is my go-to shade and sinks into my dry skin so nicely and looks like a real flush of natural color. I even apply a layer of it onto my lips first to stain them, then my Aquaphor, then I added my Clarins lip oil. I wore my YSL Candy glaze for nights out in the shade “Showcasino Nude” because it's just enough color and shine for the beach. You can see it in action on my Nordstrom Beauty Exclusives post - it's GORGEOUS.
Body + Style: Neutrogena Sun Rescue After Sun Replenishing Lotion, $14 this stuff feels amazing after the sun, even if you aren’t burned, my whole family used this // Neutrogena Beach Defense Sunscreen, $10, I love this sunscreen for the spray nozzle and how evenly it sprays // Similar one piece tummy control swimsuit, $20 // my Amazon boho maxi cover-up dress, $35 this is flowy and roomy, perfect to throw on over any swimsuit + my rainbow striped crochet Amazon coverup, $26 is super cute too // Blue Otter polarized sunglasses, $200 the most comfortable frames I’ve ever worn on my face // my Etsy waterproof jelly bangle bracelets, $35, these stayed intact even thru sunscreen, sun, and me splashing in the salty ocean. I can’t say enough good things about these lightweight bracelets. I ordered the smallest size just FYI bc I liked them very fitted to my wrist // Shein white bow sandals, $9.50
Are you going anywhere beachy soon or have you already been somewhere? I’d love to hear where everyone is choosing to vacation this summer! (*photo credit to my husband Scott of @Jawavifilms for some of the better family photos in this post*)

Jennifer, would you please do a post on how you clean your makeup brushes? And perhaps an idea of where to buy new sets of brushes? If you’ve done so before, I’m sorry I missed it.
Hello Bonnie! You know I don’t think I’ve done an in depth post here on SACAA but I have created an old short YouTube video on how I clean them here so check it out >> https://youtu.be/jKuhml-WlQY?si=y0_x2JnRyfaIRQ2q
and here is a recent blog post I did sharing some of my fave makeup brushes >> https://www.styleatacertainage.com/beauty/here-are-11-makeup-brushes-you-will-actually-use/
Beautiful photos of you and your family! I’ve been to the beach twice so far this summer. Rhode Island and Long Island, NY where I’m originally from. Hope to get to coastal Maine in August. Love your beach face look! Such pretty colors! You look so happy and relaxed!😎
why thanks Nancy B! I would LOVE to be able to visit coastal Maine – definitely a bucket list spot. Good for you for going on 3 beach trips this 2024 so far – it’s good for the soul! And I was definitely relaxed when I took these blog photos – much needed break from the hometown hustle and bustle.
Great family shot! Beautiful family Jennifer.
I’m a beach baby from way back, and after a few years of no beach vacations, we’re finally going to the beach in early September. Can’t wait! I love the ideas in this post. I do like to wear a little smidge of make-up on the beach or by the pool too. I’ll be looking into all these things.
Thank you Nancy for the sweet comment on my family! I’m proud of them. So happy to hear you get your beach vacation in September – later in the season is actually my fave time to visit the beach bc it’s not as hot! Enjoy 🙂
