As we are now full into Spring 2023, it's time to start thinking about refreshing your makeup routine and incorporating some of the latest trends. One area that is always evolving is LIP COLOR, and this season there are some exciting new shades and formulas to try; it's Spring's Hottest Lip Trends for 2023!
Plus, a new lip color addition is probably the easiest to incorporate into your beauty routine because there is pretty much NO skill needed! Just swipe it on and smile!
But before we get into these exciting trends, remember that lip care is just as important as skincare on your face. Ensure those lips are hydrated and exfoliated before applying that lip color.
My all-time favorite product (that no doubt you’ve heard me talk about before) is this all-in-one conditioner AND exfoliant by Buxom Power-full Lip Scrub stick, $19. It’s a convenient and non-messy solution conditioning lip scrub that gently exfoliates lips for a smooth, supple, sexy pout. It’s getting harder and harder to find, so be sure to scoop up this lip care product before it’s gone!

Now here are some of the lip color trends you can expect to see this Spring 2023. Get ready to find out and choose which one seems perfect for your pout!
* Note - the colors I’m wearing in the photos below will have an asterisk next to them *
This time of year and heading into summer, is always about bold and bright lip colors! Think vibrant pinks, oranges, corals, electric purples, or traditional red.
These shades are perfect for adding a pop of color to your look and are sure to turn heads. Choosing these bold shades in a matte finish also guarantees that the color doesn’t end up all over your face and stays put! Plus, bolder shades in matte finishes appear more sophisticated in my humble opinion. Especially when paired with a super simple eye look of just mascara and one shade of neutral shadow.
Bold Mattes to Try:
Revlon Colorstay Suede Ink, $9, shade “Tunnel Vision” *(hot fuchsia - wearing in this post. has great staying power while feeling so comfortable on the lips. This is a new formula for Revlon and comes in a huge selection of colors)
GXVE Beauty I’m Still Here liquid lip, $24, shade “Space Buns” (bright orange red. you will def get noticed in this shade!)
Glossy lips are back in a big way this season. Whether you prefer a high-shine gloss or a more subtle sheen, this trend is all about creating a dewy, youthful look. Look for lip glosses that contain hydrating ingredients like hyaluronic acid and vitamin E to keep your lips looking healthy and moisturized.
Glossy Finishes to Try:
NYX This Is Milky gloss, $8, “Cherry Skimmed” *(dusty pink mauve, wearing here in this post)
Hourglass Unreal High Shine Volumizing lipgloss, $32 try shade “Prose” (a super warm pink that is so wearable!)
Metallic lip colors are another trend that's making a comeback this season. From shimmering golds and silvers to bold metallic reds and pinks, these shades are perfect for adding a touch of glamour to your look. You can go shiny disco metallic or subtle glosses with a hint of metallic! Either way, they bring the fun to your lips!
Metallics to Try:
Maybelline Lifter gloss, $8, in shade “Crystal” *(gold metallic - wearing here in post)
Dior Metallic Refillable Lipsticks, $45 comes in the most beautiful metallic finishes. (try “Cheri Metallic" a metallic light rosewood)
If you’re just not feeling super bold and obvious colors, but do need a little something on your lips, try a lip oil! This trendy formula is now popping up everywhere and for good reason. It’s the perfect mix of hydration and sheer color that is perfect for an easy breezy spring day look.
Lips Oils to Try:
Haus Labs Phd Hybrid Lip Oil, $24, in shade “Primary” (cherry pink. I’m obsessed with this formula and color - so easy and pretty to wear!)
Merit Beauty Shade Slick Tinted Lip Oils, $24. Shade “Sangria,” *(deep berry, that I’m wearing in this post. I love the Merit shade options of very wearable neutral colors)
For those who prefer a more natural look, nude lip colors are still very much on-trend - especially in the spring and summer. Look for shades that match your natural lip color or choose a slightly deeper shade to add some definition.
Nude shades are super versatile and can be worn for both daytime with just mascara and with nighttime smokey eye looks. Since we’ve talked so many glosses, I will list a couple of nude lipstick options I love.
Nude Shades to Try:
Rare Beauty Kind Words Matte lipstick, $20, shade “Creative,” *(peachy nude - I’m wearing in this post)
MAC Matte Lipstick, $22, try shade “Velvet Teddy” (this is a classic nude that works on pretty much every skin tone, trust me. You can’t go wrong with this one!)
There you have it! Spring's hottest lip trends for 2023 offer something for everyone, from bold and bright shades to subtle nudes and metallics. Whether you prefer a glossy or matte finish, there are plenty of options to choose from. So, don't be afraid to experiment with different colors and styles to find the perfect lip color for your look this season.

Hi, Jennifer! I’ve never been much of a “makeup” person – just not enough confidence in how to apply it or patience with the process! But I’ve really been enjoying your posts. They are so well written and fun! I’m trying to dip my toe in by purchasing some of the products you recommend. Thanks so much for the information! You are a great addition to SAACA.
Hi Jennifer, Would you have a tutorial on how to do your eyebrows? I think this is the hardest makeup application to get consistently, Thanks, Sherry
