I don’t watch or follow along with many red carpet events anymore, but the one I ALWAYS try to catch is the Met Gala Ball. This is because there’s a fun theme all of the guests must abide by when choosing their looks, and the fashion is usually more breathtaking and over the top than say a Grammy’s or Tony’s red carpet. My favorite thing is, of course, the hair and makeup!ย I love to take inspiration from them and spin it into something wearable for every day. This year at the Met Gala, there was one celeb who literally made me do a double take and start Googling how to get her makeup lookย –ย 29 year old supermodel, Gigi Hadid. She was nothing short of spectacular.ย
Her look immediately made me think ‘summer wedding guest’ or a summer garden bridal vibe!
This year’s Met Gala theme was dubbed the “Garden Of Time” which piggybacked off the theme of the Costume Institute of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s current exhibit called, “Sleeping Beauties – Reawakening Fashion.”
*Fun backstory behind this theme : It was due to the fact the museum was going to be displaying very delicate fashion pieces that were too fragile or too old to be placed on actual mannequins, therefore they would be displayed lying down in glass coffins just like in the tale Sleeping Beauty.
Yes of course Gigi’s white off the shoulder Thomas Browne gown with floral attachments and over 2 million beads was one of a kind, but it was her MAKEUP look that got me. She said that her bold red lip + fresh faced look was fully inspired by Marilyn Monroe because it went with her new blonde bob haircut!
It’s actually quite easy to do a copycat version of her makeup that can be adapted to a summer wedding occasion. Here’s how anyone can recreate Gigi Hadid’s Met Gala 2024 makeup look step by step. I even used the exact makeup her artist did since she is a spokesperson for Maybelline!ย

Prime, Foundation + Concealer
Hourglass Vanish Airbrush Primer, $58.ย
To achieve a flawless base and for your foundation not to slide off during the hot summer months, use a primer. This will create a smooth canvas for your makeup and keep it in place. I first bought the mini size of this Hourglass primer, and then decided it was definitely worth purchasing the big one! It truly gives bare skin an airbrushed finish that makes skin feel like satin.
Make Up For Ever HD Hydra Glow foundation, $47, + Maybelline Instant Age Rewind concealer, $10.
Choose a lightweight foundation that goes a tad warmer than your skin tone for a summer glow. Choose a more matte finish if you’re oily, and a more luminous finish if you’re dry (that’s me!). I like to apply my foundation in a thin layer over the primer (which does a lot of the work) for a natural, seamless finish using the well-loved Anisa Beauty Pinnacle foundation brush, $38. I’m wearing shade 2N22 in the Makeup For Ever foundation here.ย
Gigi’s look was all about radiant skin, so opt for a foundation that enhances your natural glow. I own so many formulas of foundation, and this HD hydra glow is definitely getting used the most as the temperatures are rising.
For concealer I stuck with an old school favorite, the Maybelline Instant Age rewind, shade 110,ย that I’m back into wearing because of the ease of applying with the sponge tip and it’s just so hydrating!ย It’s truly one of the best drugstore concealers on the market.

Contour, Blush, then Highlight
e.l.f. Halo Glow Contour Wand, $9 ย + Smashbox Cream & Cheek Tint, $28 + Laura Mercier RoseGlow Highlighting Powder, $37.ย
Gigi is a model, so obviously, her bone structure is pretty amazing!ย But for someone like me, I need a bit more help with creating a more defined bone structure.ย
For a soft, natural contour that isn’t super obvious, I used the e.l.f. cream contour wand in shade light/medium, which has the most perfect small sponge applicator to work with for the tiny areas and precise application needed to work on the face.
Gigi wore a good amount of blush, which I think is one of the main reasons she looks so radiant to me. Move onto a cream blush in a rosy shade with a bit of warmth to it. ย Apply it to the highest point of the apples of your cheeks and blend upwards towards your temples for a youthful, flushed appearance. This adds a fresh, summery vibe to your look.ย
I’m wearing shade “Wisteria” here which is a super wearable warm rosewood shade and goes perfect with the red lips.

You can’t skip a luminous highlighter.ย She seemed to have it placed just on two spots of the high points of her face- cheekbones and bridge of the nose.ย Blend it in with your fingers or a sponge for a natural glow. This Rose Glow shade keeps with the outdoor garden vibes, right??
Eyeshadow, Liner, Mascara
Urban Decay Reloaded palette, $50, Tarte Wide Awake liner, $24, Sephora Retractable eyeliner, $13, and L’Oreal Panorama mascara, $13.
Gigi’s eye makeup was very soft and not super complicated.ย So start with a neutral eyeshadow base such as a matte ivory. Then use a matte soft taupe or light brown shade along the crease to add depth. Lastly apply a slight shimmer champagne or rose gold shade near the tear duct area for a soft luminous effect.
Use any black eyeliner on your upper lash line. Create a subtle wing on the outer corners, then smudge it slightly on top with a dark brown shadow from your shadow palette to result in a softer finish. Definitely add that nude eyeliner in the lower waterline to brighten and widen the eye bed. You all know by now, I never skip this nude eyeliner step!
I could be wrong, but Gigi didn’t seem to be wearing fake lashes on the red carpet. So I just curled my lashes and applied two coats of the brand new L’Oreal Panorama mascara to my upper lashes and one coat just on the outer corners of the lower lashes. This stuff does not clump and gives mega length.

Red Lipstick
Blend of two shades of the Maybelline SuperStay Vinyl Lip Inks, $9, in shades “Wicked” and “Red Hot”
This is where the drama comes in. For the lips, Gigi went for a classic Marilyn Monroe red lip that was the highlight of her look.ย
These are the actual shades Gigi’s makeup artist used on her for the red carpet – so I KNEW it would look fabulous! The key is to draw on the shade “wicked” first – the darker of the two – then add the brighter red-orange shade “red hot” on top.
I applied this red lip at 3 pm, and it did not wear off until 10 pm that night – it stayed on through a greasy pasta dinner!
Setting Spray: One Size On Til’ Dawn mattifying setting spray, $32.
If you’re attending an outdoor wedding party then you’ll want to lock in your look with a setting spray to keep your makeup in place. This one is my holy grail now and I love the aerosol spray which makes it so easy to use and smells amazing.
