This Method Will Make Any Foundation Last All Day Long!
Does anyone else feel that as they get older, their makeup just seems to completely fade away during the day?? Sometimes it’s as if my face EATS my foundation so by dinner time, it looks like I didn’t apply a thing! Well if this is a problem that you deal with, I have an unconventional solution for you – this method will make any foundation last all day long!
Today I’m going to share with you the makeup hack that was popular a couple of years ago on TikTok and Instagram. And it has sort of made a resurgence for me personally in how I apply my face makeup products. Plus I’ll be sharing the exact products I used to achieve today’s look.
I truly cannot believe how this reverse order of applying your products, not only makes the products stay longer, but they also work together to make my skin look MORE flawless than when I layer the traditional way!
Disclaimer: this method is for those willing to put in the time and the steps for this routine. And it’s for those who like medium to full coverage - which I usually do.
So without further ado, let’s get into the 6 steps you need to shock and awe you with how good your makeup can look and the longevity you will give to your foundation!

This Method Will Make Any Foundation Last All Day Long!
STEP 1. MOISTURIZE
It Cosmetics Confidence In A Cream Anti-Aging Super Cream, $59. This is the most important step to have hydrated, cushiony skin to begin with! This cream has been around the block and gets high ratings because of its ability to give you the silkiest smooth skin thanks to hyaluronic acid and ceramides.

STEP 2. POWDER
Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Powder, $43. This is where it gets weird…applying the powder right after the moisturizer! The key to this part is to 1. use a powder puff and 2. to use a super thin layer. You don’t need a lot of powder - just a thin veil that you press and roll into the skin after the moisturizer has completely dried. And you all know, this is THE loose powder every woman should own.
STEP 3. SETTING SPRAY
Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Setting Spray, $38. Okay now you have to set that powder! Just grab your favorite makeup setting spray and really spray that loose powder down well! I have recently become a big fan of this CT formula because it’s a hydrating, alcohol- and oil-free spray that weightlessly sets makeup for up to 16 hours without melting, fading, or settling into fine lines. A win win! Spray it in a cross motion then an X motion, and get every inch of the face. Let it completely dry down before next step.

STEP 4. PRIMER
Elemis Pro Collagen Insta Smooth Primer, $80. I know it feels weird to only now apply the primer, but hang with me! I am such a fan of all Elemis products, and this smoothing primer is no exception. NO, I don’t love the price point, but I do love the scent of all their products. Also, the feel of this primer is like actual silk, and it provides both skincare and makeup benefits.
When I apply primer on top of the powder + setting spray combo, I like to rub the primer in between my hands and fingers and then gently press it into my face - instead of rubbing it on. By pressing and rolling most of these products into the skin, it’s going to help with the overall appearance.
If you just can’t do an $80 primer, this e.l.f. Power Grip primer, $10, with niacinimide is getting a lot of love for having skincare benefits as well as major staying power.

STEP 5. FOUNDATION
Gucci Eternité de Beaute foundation, $69. Now you will start to see how much better the coverage and finish of your foundation performs. I find that using a beauty blender sponge really works well for this method, as I like to stipple the foundation into my face. I’m using shade 270 N here. This Gucci formula is full coverage with a luminous matte finish which I am definitely into. I cannot believe how beautiful my complexion looks now!

STEP 6. FINISH WITH Concealer, Blush, and Other Color Products
I never go without concealer, so I pop on the Benefit Boi-ing Cakeless concealer and then I set one more time just under the eyes with another super thin layer of loose powder. I’m also very pleased with the beauty of the Hourglass Ambient Lighting blush, $45, in shade “sublime flush” which gives off just a hint of shimmer that everyone's cheeks will love!

When does the sunscreen get applied?
I’d say use a moisturizer with SPF included in it (first step) or if you’d rather use them separately use it right after moisturizer. Also choose a foundation w SPF included as there are many options of those these days 👍🏼
