Even though our weather here in Georgia can be described as “wacky at best” - up and down, up and down - the chill of winter is fading away and the warmth of spring is starting to blossom and stick around! This means it is time to reassess our skincare and makeup routines. Spring is the time to shed heavy layers and embrace a fresh, lightweight makeup look! And one product that perfectly complements the spring vibe is the TINTED MOISTURIZER. Think skincare meets makeup.

Tinted moisturizers are lightweight, hydrating lotions that provide a sheer tint of color and coverage to the skin. And yes, even if you have oily skin, you too can benefit from a hydrating tinted moisturizer, it just has to be the right kind. Unlike heavy foundations, tinted moisturizers allow your skin to breathe while providing a subtle, even tone.
Consider your skin type. You need to consider your skin type first to determine what kind of formula to buy. The very best ones treat your skincare concerns. If you have dry skin then you should choose ones with nourishing ingredients like squalane, hyaluronic acid, and even Vitamin C. Now if you’re oily, then you should look for one that says oil-free with mattifying ingredients like niacinamide and salicylic acid. And if your skin is sensitive, you’ll want ingredients that soothe like aloe vera and shea butter.
Of course start by applying to a well cleansed face. Most tinted moisturizers are not completely a substitute for moisturizing/hydrating so I will usually use some sort of anti-aging moisturizer or serum first before applying. If you’re super oily though, I think it’s safe to skip this extra step and go straight to your tinted moisturizer.
Go ahead and apply it in dots to the face with your fingers then blend in with your hands like you would moisturizer with no color! Then spot treat certain areas with concealer and loose powder as needed to keep with a natural look.
NARS Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer, $46. This formula from NARS comes in 16 shade options. It provides a natural-looking radiant glow while hydrating the skin with skin loving ingredients like Vitamin C and French Polynesisan Kopara which is a natural sugar that helps to both hydrate skin cells and perpetuate cell renewal. It also contains SPF 30 for added sun protection.
Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer Oil Free, $54. A cult favorite, this version of Laura Mercier's tinted moisturizer offers sheer coverage with a more matte finish. It's available in a wide range of shades, 22, to suit every skin tone and even comes in a mini version, $29, if you’re not ready to commit to the full size.
For dry skin try the Wet n Wild Bare Focus Tinted Hydrator, $6, it's perfect for those with dry or dehydrated skin that want a semi-matte finish with great coverage! For oily skin try the Maybelline Dream Pure BB Cream, $8, that contains salicylic acid for acne prone oily skin and gives a mattifying finish. Even though it’s technically not called a tinted moisturizer, it acts and resembles one because it delivers oil free hydration and light coverage at the same time.
Urban Decay Stay Naked Hydro Maniac Tinted Glow Hydrator, $35. This non-comedogenic tinted moisturizer delivers hydration, medium coverage, and a fresh glow finish for up to 24 hours. I’m wearing shade 50 medium in this post. Only downside is no SPF included but you can apply your sunscreen before this with no problem.
Danessa Myricks Yummy Smoothing Serum Skin Tint, $36. With a 4.6 out of 5 star rating, this hydrating and smoothing, skincare-infused skin tint provides light coverage and a skin-like, radiant finish that addresses redness and uneven skin tones.
bareMinerals Complexion Rescue tinted moisturizer, $39. This lightweight gel-cream provides the benefits of makeup, skincare, and SPF 30 in one step. The oil-free formula visibly evens skin tone and blurs imperfections for a dewy, healthy-looking glow. It even earned a Best of Beauty Award for 2023 from Allure.
What I added to my look after the tinted moisturizer:
Cheeks - Charlotte Tilbury Beauty Wand highlighter in “pillow talk medium,” $42, gives just enough warmth and shimmer and color that I didn’t feel the need to add true blush. Concealer - I’ve gone back to an old school favorite, the Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser concealer, shade 110, $10. I’ll go so far as to say it’s the best drugstore concealer of all time.
Lip gloss - Maybelline Lifter Gloss in “sweetheart,” $10 is the absolute perfect sheer warm cherry shade for spring and summer. I’m on my third tube of it!! My summer striped lightweight sweater vest, $10, is what I would describe as a HAPPY top that comes in many color combos. I’m wearing a size medium.

I’m interested in the sweater. I usually wear Large or size 14. Do their sizes compare to most American companies? I noticed a lack of this size in this sweater.
Hey Mary. For reference I’m wearing a size medium here but it is a tad loose – which I kind of like though. You’re right they don’t seem to offer enough size options. I’m a 36C bra size if that helps at all regarding fit
