It’s FALL y’all! It officially kicked off on September 22nd. But it has felt like mid-summer here in Georgia still…holy 90+ degrees Batman! However, I am manifesting that the cooler seasonal temps are right around the corner. I am 100% ready to switch up my style and fall beauty routine to reflect this welcome temperature change!
So why would there be a need to change up your look with the seasons you ask? I think everyone should wear whatever they want (wardrobe, makeup, hair style), that reflects what they are currently feeling, thinking, stage of life, emotional headspace, all the things. But I also like to mirror my looks to embrace the season we are experiencing at the moment.
Which means I am putting aside the neon colored nail polishes, the pastel makeup, and the tank tops, and switching towards the following 5 FALL BEAUTY ITEMS that can easily reflect the change from summer to fall.
I have included my expert tips and the key products you can shop (or just be inspired by) to easily stay on trend and embrace your own transformation while the leaves start to change and that crisp morning air hits…

DARK NAILS // My choice: imPRESS nails, $9, in “Maplewood”
Makeup girly or non-makeup girly, we can all easily pull off this fall beauty trend! Nothing says fall like deep, dramatic, look-at-me nail beds. This season, dark nail polish is making a comeback with rich hues like deep plum, forest green (Essie “Off Tropic” )is my yearly Fall go-to for green seen below), bordeaux, and jet black (Essie “Black Licorice”) taking center stage.
These shades bring a sense of sophistication and also an edge to your look, instantly transforming your hands into an accessory.
Opt for a high-shine finish for an extra polished vibe, or my favorite, the imPRESS press-on nails collections, which have come such a long way!! I always buy these fake nails with the peel and stick option because they are so much easier and quicker than the glue ones. I don’t walk into the salon and drop $50 on a manicure anymore which wastes at least an hour of my time. I’d rather spend under $10 for a box of press ons that can last me up to two weeks (of course replacing one that pops off here and there from the leftovers) and I can switch them up for the remainder of the month into a new look, for even half the cost of a salon visit. Have I convinced you to try them yet??
COOL NEUTRAL EYES // My choice: Buxom Cosmetics Forever Babe Iconic Nudes Palette, $32
Consider this change in color schemes as a nod to the ‘90’s grunge look, but in a more effortless, girly, but cool way!! Summer was meant for the warmer toned browns, but now with cooler temps coming, it just makes sense to switch up to cooler neutrals.
This brand new palette of 8 shades with 4 shimmers and 4 mattes, is the ultimate starter kit for fall eye looks. And ANYONE can wear this palette with ease as you can see in my inspo photos.
I swiped the matte ivory shade right underneath my brow, then mixed two of the lighter champagne and shimmery taupes along the center of my lid, and then added a bit of the deep matte brown on top of my winged liner. (I used the L’Oreal Infallible Grip Precision felt tip liner pen for this look - it’s easy to draw with and stays put). I kept the lower lash line clean of any color, just mascara.
You can’t get any easier or effortless than this eye makeup. Check out how I used this exact palette in action over on my Instagram reel here - don’t forget to follow along with me and my makeup shenanigans over there if you’re not already!!
SOFT FOCUS GLOWY SKIN // My choice: Hourglass Limited Edition Holiday Ambient Lighting Palettes, $90.
Since we will be losing our summer tans as the months progress, we need a way to inject that glow back into our skin! I had to include the newest holiday editions of the Hourglass palettes, because the one I’m holding from last year is one of my all time favorite products to use! (*the ones from last year sold out within 4 DAYS of them being launched! then they appeared back later on in the season, thank goodness which is when I snagged mine!)
These gorgeous 6 pan palettes give you everything you need to layer, or use individually, to achieve that soft focus multidimensional skin glow. They’ll each include blushes, bronzer, finishing powder and a highlighter. This year's palettes are all created to capture symbols of “good fortune” from the lotus flower (the ability to calmly rise above muddy waters), the evil eye (ability to stay perceptive and positively mindful), and the dragon (ability to achieve power and good fortune).
These limited edition palettes also make the most beautiful gift for that makeup junkie in your life - or maybe it’s you 🙂 And you know that the holiday gift-giving season is now fast approaching!
SWITCH UP YOUR FRAGRANCE // My choice: Ellis Brooklyn, Super Amber, $110
Just like I mentioned in the beginning of this post, you should wear whatever reflects who you really are, and this includes your signature scent! But just like with the changes in weather as we go towards a new season, so do our emotions towards fragrance.
For fall, it’s definitely a move from refreshing bright floral scents, to fragrances full of warmth and character. This usually comes in many forms of vanilla, musk, sandalwood, etc. You know, scents you want to cozy up to!!
And ladies do I have a scent for you that I am OBSESSED with because every single time I wear it out - somebody tells me how delightful I smell - no exaggeration. Super Amber is the epitome of a fall scent to me - it’s got addictive notes of amber (duh), cedarwood, vanilla orchid, and biodegradable musk. It’s like you’re wrapping your bare skin in a cashmere blanket. It comes in a mini size, $33, too if you want to try it out without committing to the larger size which is what I did the first time I purchased it.
Another fab fragrance option for fall, is the super popular Sol De Janeiro Cheirosa 59 body mist, $38, that combines sugared violet with vanilla orchid and sandalwood! My daughter wears this, and she also gets compliments from her friends about how good she always smells! Which is the ultimate compliment in my opinion…
VAMPY LIP COLOR - BOLD MATTE OR SHEER // My choices: Morphe Soulmatte Velvet Lip Mousse, “Compatible,” $12, and Clinique Posh Plush Lip gloss, “Black Honey,” $25.
I know this fall beauty trend isn’t surprising anyone. Dark moody lips are always a welcome change in my lip color arsenal. Rich burgundies, black cherry, chili-reds, seem to be as natural as the leaves losing their summer green color and changing to the previous shades mentioned!
And pairing a more muted and monochromatic face of makeup can be balanced just beautifully with these goth-glam type shades of lips. As I’m showing here in this post - you don’t have to do just an opaque matte shade like the Morphe lip color in this rich plum vibe.
You could also do the same moody tones, but in a shiny light reflecting gloss like this Clinique one in the iconic “Black Honey” shade. Highly recommend you revisit this shade from the 70’s and 80’s if you haven’t owned one since then.
The rest of my look details: Busting out the everyday denim jacket with a sweatshirt + hoodie twist! I love this comfy thing that combines two of my favorite fabrics for fall. Similar jackets from Kohls here, $55, and Amazon here, $35, and of course the all day knit denim jacket from Z Supply, $125 they bring back yearly it’s that good // Basic gray ribbed tank top from JCrew, $30 // Dainty heart necklace that can be engraved (similar), $24
What are your thoughts on fall style? Which of these beauty trends will you embrace, or not?! I’d love to hear. Be sure to check out this post on how to achieve “Airbrushed-Like Skin” that you can add to your new fall beauty routine as well.
