it’s friday, gang! which means it’s time to kick off the weekend. hooray! today, we’re dishing up a healthy meal – ahi tuna poke jicama tacos. say that three times in a row. phew! add a refreshing summer cocktail with an adorable name – juliet and romeo – and you have fridays with oscar. yes, our favorite german shepherd decided he’d join in the fun. but only ‘cuz he had to. there were lots of pesky deer traipsing through the woods this week. and you never know what ollie is up to. oscar takes his patrol duties quite seriously.
when i’m not keeping oscar and ollie in check one of my favorite pastimes is scouring cookbooks. flipping pages and debating what to concoct next just never gets old. the past year i’ve added cocktail books to the equation. it’s fascinating to learn about the origins of cocktails – who, what, when. two of my favorite books that i go back to time and again are skinnytaste fast and slow and The New Cocktail Hour.
i know, i know, you thought i spent most of my time perusing fashion sites, shopping, and putting outfits together. while i love fashion; home design, reading and cooking have a special place in my heart. but why not look our best while pursuing those things we love? that’s always been my motto.

you just never know what ollie is up to. or what she considers a comfy sleeping spot.
these tacos are delicious! a perfect summer meal. what makes them healthy is replacing the traditional tortilla with jicama. since i’ve been on a fitness journey, i love to discover tasty and nutritious recipes to share with y’all. many of you have asked why i keep sharing FASTer Way to Fat Loss since i don’t look as if i need to lose weight. honestly, i’ve never had a weight problem other than letting extra pounds creep on after menopause. but i was a victim of our times and had a very. poor. diet. the calories i consumed weren’t nutritious. they were empty calories, to say the least. one reason i love FWTFL and love to share it with you is how this program changed my perspective on what to eat day-in and day-out.
these days, aging with strength and grace is at the top of my mind. hey, this girl will turn 61 in a few short weeks! one way to keep our brains and bodies in tip-top shape is feeding both with nutritious foods. how i think about calories, fats, proteins, and carbs has changed dramatically over the course of the year. and i’m happy to share what i’ve learned with you.

we loved this recipe. and it’s so easy to throw together. perfect summer dish. xo
Love your glasses
I enjoy your posts. Have you considered sharing what books you are reading?
hi judith!
yes, i have a link on the blog to my online book club. here you go: https://www.styleatacertainage.com/books/about-book-club-with-style/
there’s also a link to our previous picks: https://www.styleatacertainage.com/books/previous-picks/
Hi Beth, recipe looks lovely. I really love how you like to try different cocktails, one of my favourites is a Negroni which I first tried in Madeira last year which is odd because I don’t like Campari or sweet vermouth only the gin but all three together I love. Lovely to see Ollie this week too, have a nice weekend xoxk
oh, i love negroni! a favorite restaurant of mine just finished negroni week. it was fabulous. xo
Would love to see more of Ollie and his adventures. He has a good perch from which to oversee his kingdom. However, he looks a tad grumpy, maybe Oliver was being irritating.
ha ha! she isn’t grumpy at all. as a matter of fact, she has such a good nature about her. all maine coon cats do.
xo
Good for you–sounds yummy. I stopped eating any foods with gluten once I had autoimmune issues, and it really helps keep inflammation levels down as well as control my weight. I like the idea of the jicama bed! I love a good eggs benedict breakfast, but hardly ever order it in a restaurant any more, because I can’t have that wonderful english muffin beneath it–that is, until I went to one restaurant who brought me one with a base of a seared zucchini slice! It was delicious! So now that’s how I fix them. Much less of that “bloaty” feeling, too, and I no longer miss it at all, even though I used to bake all our breads–everything from baguettes, braided breads, sourdoughs, etc. Seven years no baked things, and I don’t mind it at all–I even eat “pizza” with cauliflower crust, which is pretty tasty, and I use a spiralizer for zucchini “spaghetti.” It is actually delicious!
You look great. I love eating healthy, so never had a problem with that–but it really is so much better for us! Happy weekend to you all!
oh, eggs benedict with a zucchini slice sounds divine! there are so many nutritious recipes available today. i very rarely eat bread these days. i’m like you, i don’t miss it one bit. the good carbs take their place now and keep me feeling sooooo much better.

HI BETH, I love your blog, glad you are coping so well. You look great. The tacos look delicious and easy! Jicama is pronounced “hecama”. I love it – a little sweet and crunchy. Keep up the good work.
wanted to see who was paying attention! but, yes, the j is silent when pronouncing jicima. thanks for stopping by! xo
Hi Beth, You look great as always and the food and cocktail look delish. Love Fridays when we get to see Oscar and also Ollie. They are both beautiful and I know that they are good company for you. Have a good weekend! Blessings in abundance to you!!
thanks so much, Violet! oscar and ollie are indeed the best companions and keep me on the move. i don’t know what i would do without them. xo
Love the outfit, especially the blouse. Hopefully you will share that at a later date. I am glad to see you are still doing Friday’s with Oscar and I am assuming, inviting someone to join you with the fabulous meals you are preparing as I see two place settings.
Drinks and dinner look wonderful. ENJOY!
hi suzi! thanks for stopping by. well, my new photographer is always up for a delicious meal so i always have the table set for two. and i have friends that stop by as well as family. i’m blessed. as for the shirt it’s linked above so take a peek. xo
I make ahi poke bowls but I will make this recipe as a great alternative.
Looking lovely and much more relaxed. work will do that for you on this arduous journey without Mr Style. Mr young stylist is doing a wonderful job. On another note we have just adopted a 4 year old Belgian Shepherd ( we are her fourth home ) and she has clearly been abused. She is gorgeous with us and our 18 year old rescue cat. I was looking for one of those jackets f that your young lad Oscar obtained sometime ago and of which you spoke so highly. When you have a moment if you would kindly advise where I can get one in USA it would be very much appreciated. Love to you all.
love your Friday posts with Oscar and Ollie-I have a rescue mostly main coon cat Riley and he is the sweetest boy as well, happy Friday!
I love your glasses!! They look great on you. I am in the market for new glasses and am wondering if you can share what brand/designer for your frames?? Thank you for bringing style and joy into my βINβ box everyday!!!
the glasses are by Gucci. i don’t have the model number but they were purchased from our optometrist in may. xo
Hi Beth,
I watched your You tube video before seeing this blog. Glad to have found the blog for the recipe. BTW, jicama is pronounced with an “h” like “hick”ah ma. π
glad you were paying attention! yes, the proper pronunciation of jicama is by dropping the j.
The food sounds and looks delicious! Is Ollie a Mainecoon? We have two Mainecoons, they are Just like little dogs! Have a good weekend!
yes, ollie is a Maine Coon cat. aren’t they the best breed? she is so good natured. xo
Great recipe!
we loved both recipes! perfect summer dishes. xo
Beth,
This looks scrumptious. (And so do the tacos!) But we better not try to say the name of this dish five times fast–espeically if we’ve had your coctail first. Thanks, as always, for sharing your ‘quintessential’ self and your recipes with all of us.
Hello Beth,
LOVE Friday’s with Oscar and Ollie. (though tuna. loathsome. π) So enjoy the video clips as well! You are an inspiration, Beth. Your posts never fail to lift me up. Enjoy the day!
My favorite Friday’s with Oscar post ever!! I love the video showing you putting together this delicious meal and cocktail and, of course, seeing both Oscar and Ollie (what cuties)
Admire your spirit, and style!
