it’s the summer kickoff, gang! Memorial Day Weekend is here. 2021 looks quite a bit different than 2020, so i hope you have big plans with friends and family. every year it’s a joy to usher in the patriotic holidays that begins with Memorial Day. before you know it, the Fourth of July will be knocking on our doors then Labor Day. that’s how fast summer breezes by. so let’s enjoy every minute! today, i have an easy-peasy dessert on hand thanks to a surprise delivery on my doorstep from the building team that sprang my master bathroom to life. of course, oscar is ready for his weekly gig, so without further adieu, let’s get this long weekend started!

the temps have hovered in the low 90s all week long, so i’m going for chic comfort today with this lightweight skirt and top from Ann Taylor. sleeves are having a moment this year, either oversized or puffed. the button cuffed sleeve on this feminine blouse adds character, as does the square neckline. the flounced midi skirt with a front and back yoke is a dream to wear on a hot summer day and can be styled in multiple ways. i have a feeling you’ll be seeing this skirt again, but it looks fantastic paired with the matching blouse. pop a white blazer over the top, and you’re ready to head to the office.

these delicious strawberries landed on my front door yesterday, along with a can of whipped cream. guess what’s for dessert? who could waste these gorgeous, fresh strawberries?! off to the store, i went in search of angel food cake. strawberry shortcake is on the dessert menu this weekend. it’s a summer favorite that needs very little preparation. when i was growing up, my nana and mom always added sugar to sliced strawberries, which turned into a syrupy delight. but these days, i limit sugar as much as possible, so the strawberries went rogue with a shot of whipped cream on top. what could be easier to make?

when friends and family gather, i love to set up a beverage center where they can serve themselves. sun tea and cucumber-infused water are two of my summer favorites.

oscar, and i wish you a happy Memorial Day Weekend. summer has officially arrived!
Love the 2 piece red skirt and top. The belt just finishes it off. Love your yard Beth and Oscar of course. Have a great Memorial Weekend. From Canada.
The skirt and top look like a dress you look fabulous! Those strawberries look beautiful too and Oscar is so handsome. How is Ollie? How do you get the pictures you post? Do you take them?
i have a photographer and videographer on staff that takes all of the photos and films the videos.
Beth, I love most of the outfits you wear. But when I saw today’s outfit, my immediate reaction was “that’s cute, but that’s not me”. At 63, I know what I am comfortable wearing and what I think looks good on me. (Usually not a dress.) Do you ever have that response to what you are choosing to wear and post?
i have a boho streak in me that comes into play more in the summer months. that’s why Ralph Lauren is my favorite designer as he takes preppy, classic, and boho and mixes them all together. i imagine if i’d paired the skirt with a tee or the top with jeans you wouldn’t have given it a second thought. though i have a strong sense of style i love to keep things fresh and i love a feminine flirty outfit from time to time. i always encourage my readers to step out of your fashion box now and then. an outfit may surprise you.
Beautiful outfit and looks perfect for summer! Oscar looks like such a sweetheart! Happy Memorial Day and here is to getting together with family and friends again!
here’s to family and friends! enjoy your weekend!
A little different from your usual style Beth. You look stunning. I love ghe way you dress – stylish classic, elegant. Just the clothes I enjoy wearing. Perhaps I should be brave and try something a little more girly.
i just shared on another comment that if i’d worn the skirt with a tee or the top with jeans you wouldn’t have given the post another thought. many times i keep an outfit balanced by pairing masculine with feminine. today, it’s all about boho chic which i love to wear especially during the summer months. gotta keep things fresh!
Hi Beth, I can wait to see the master bath.
Love Oscar very pretty decorations.
Have a nice memorial Da!!.
we’ll have an upcoming post that will take you through the bathroom renovation. i LOVE it!
Have a wonderful Memorial Day weekend also. I just love strawberry shortcake and strawberry pie. Love the outfit, and love Ann Taylor, only wish it came in another color. I do not wear orange. Does not look good on me though you look great in it!
my mom loved strawberry/rhubarb pie! i might have to make one this weekend. enjoy your Memorial Day weekend.
I love the Anne Taylor jacket you showed today. Do you think that is something that will go out of style quickly?
it’s a cropped blazer so it does have a chance of going out of style more quickly. but i think this silhouette will stick around for a year or two.
Lovely post! Beth, I hope you know how much you are truly helping people. Your blog may seem to be “just” style but it’s so much more than that. Your story intertwined with everything gives inspiration at many levels. Your authenticity shines through. I hope you and Oscar have a wonderful start to your summer!
what a lovely comment, sandra! thank you so very much. enjoy your weekend!
Have a wonderful Memorial weekend with your family!
And enjoy your warm weather. We are at our cottage in Northern Michigan. It was warm a couple of days ago but today is sunny but only 50 and so windy it could blow you over.
i remember a Memorial Day weekend when my kiddos were small that was so cold we hung out in our sweatshirts, sweatpants, and jackets and went to McDonald’s so they could play on the inside playground. stay warm!
We lived in Reno, NV for about 15 years. Our 1st Memorial Day it snowed 3 inches. Being a Southern gal that was such a surprise. Love today’s dress. You always look great. Thank you for your blog. I’m short and can’t wear everything that you do but it gives me ideas on how to style for my size and height. Wishing you a blessed Memorial Day. Time to reflect on those who gave their lives for this wonderful country
Happy Memorial Day Weekend Beth! Have a wonderful celebration; you look marvelous. I have had my eye on this outfit for a while and you sold me on it!! Looks perfect for summer days:)
it’s the perfect summer outfit. and since they’re separates it can be mixed and matched a number of ways. enjoy your weekend!
I know that for many, Memorial Day is the unofficial start of the summer, and for you, it certainly is a happy and celebratory weekend. But for us, the many military families who have to carry on with our lives in the shadow of unbearable loss, it cuts deeply every May when the day is about sales and picnics. We wouldn’t deny you your joy, but please remember that Memorial Day has a different significance for us.
if you’ve followed the blog long enough you know we will remember our veterans on Memorial Day. there are too many members of my family
who served in the military, not to pay homage to this somber day.
Strawberries look awesome. Try them with a little balsamic vinegar and a touch of black pepper. Yum.
Love your blog.
You look so pretty. Love your new haircut. Love the pictures of Oscar. What a gorgeous dog. As you can tell by my email and website, I love dogs and have two myself :-). Happy Memorial Day from Two Adorable Labs!!!
Wishing ypu a good holiday weekend.
