Welcome to our Savannah Travel Guide! With interesting historical tours, great shopping, and many good restaurants, Savannah is our favorite city in the Southeast. 

About Savannah

A short drive (only about 4 hours) from my home in Athens, Savannah is the oldest city in Georgia. General James Earl Oglethorpe founded Savannah in 1733. Often called “America’s first planned city,” Savannah’s designers laid it out in a grid with 24 squares.
Originally used as areas for colonists to practice militia training exercises, the 22 remaining squares are beautiful green spaces for the public to gather in park-like settings.
