And a very happy Tuesday! Who has started shopping for Thanksgiving? This year I’m only in charge of the appetizers, so it’s smooth sailing ahead. I’m thinking of putting together a Brie charcuterie tray and adding veggies, too. Instagram gave me some inspiration for the tray. If it turns out as cute as it looks, it’s a winner. I’ll share later in the month if it turns out as planned. As far as Christmas goes, I’ve only begun to shop for presents, but this year I think I’ll trim the tree ahead of schedule and wrap my gifts when they arrive on my doorstep. Although I do have an Atlanta shopping day planned this week. I have a date on Thursday, then spending the night at Andrew and Chelsea’s (we’re practicing our mother/son dance), then shopping on Friday with one of my besties. Nothing better than a little retail therapy and lunch!

Plus, practical dating tips for women over 50
Recently, on Instagram, I started a dating series where I share an outfit and dish out dating advice. Since the over-50 demographic is the fastest growing sector on dating apps due to divorce and the loss of a spouse, I wanted to share all things dating on the blog. 30% of the over 50 crowd is single. Dipping your toe back into the dating pool can be intimidating, especially if it's been years since you went on a date. Many of my followers stop by and share their success stories. And I have to say it’s inspiring to hear after suffering a great loss, they found love again in their 40s, 50s, 60s, and beyond. I always say it’s never too late for anything, whether it’s a new career, finding your mojo, reinventing yourself or your wardrobe, or finding love and romance. Who knew I’d be in my 60s on a dating app and going out on dates? Yep, it’s never too late for anything.

My first piece of advice is to get on a dating app. Match has the largest pool of potential dates, but Hinge or Bumble are great choices, too. Craft at least six good photos with one headshot, group activities, and full-body images. Make certain they are recent photos. There’s nothing worse than showing up for a date only to realize your date is ten to fifteen years older than their photos… Don’t use selfies in the car, don’t wear sunglasses, and don’t share photos with your cleavage. Keep your bio short, but add your personality by weaving your interests and sense of humor through your profile.

Now that you’ve nabbed that first date, it’s time to plan your wardrobe. Dating can be overwhelming, so having pre-selected date outfits at your beck and call will take some stress out of your life. A casual outfit for the day and a dinner date outfit are must-haves.
Today’s ootd is perfect for a casual date, whether coffee in the morning or drinks in the evening. It starts with my favorite winter combo: a Sweater Dress and boots. Of course, tights are the perfect solution when wearing a dress and boots, but don’t forget to add a little bling. A pendant (old, Similar Necklace) is a great choice with a dress, and I love bangles or link bracelets for a little extra glitz.

Adorable sweater dress. Wish it wasn’t 48% wool, allergic. Otherwise, I would be buying it. So cute on you. Good luck on your date. I know what it is like to lose a spouse and then try to get back out there to find love again. Can be hard.
It is hard, but I firmly believe life is meant to be lived and lived fully. The hardest part is behind me, losing Mr. Style in July 2019. And while dating can be overwhelming at times I’ve met some interesting men and have been having a good time.
I’m so happy you are having a good time dating again.
Having run through the mine field of the dating app a few bits of advice
1 beware of scammers if something seems odd listen to your instinct
2 always let someone know where you are going
3 If possible arrange an emergency out. Go on the date in your own transport.
Sorry I must sound like your mum would
Hi Karen! Thanks so much for the tips.
Yes, be aware that scammers exist. They seem to be everywhere, including dating sites.
And never, ever have your date pick you up on the first date. It’s better to meet them at your venue of choice in your own vehicle.
xo
The sweater dress with the suede boots is fabulous; a little pricey so I will be scouring for alternatives that are a bit more on the economical side. Any suggestions you may have would be great. Also, I am in Canada so not all stores and lines (eg. Walmart Scoop Line) are available up here in the snowy north.
A sweater dress and boots is a winning combo all winter long. I’m confident you will source alternatives in your price point. Thanks for stopping by!
Hi Beth, love the sweater dress !
