Phew! Is Black Friday/Cyber Monday shopping over? One never knows these days as one shopping event after another is featured by all of the retailers all of the time. Back in the day when I was growing up, we had three major sales, four if you counted the White Sale for bedding, but the big sales commenced like clockwork year after year: the day after the 4th of July, Black Friday, and the day after Christmas. Yours truly waited with bated breath to see if my favorite spring/summer outfits still had my size when it was time to shop the summer sales, and the same with fall/winter for festive outfits. My mother adamantly refused to shop for Black Friday sales, but we were first in line for the after-Christmas sale when prices had been dramatically slashed. It was a day filled with a shop til you drop mentality, with our shopping bags filled by the end of the day with wrapping paper, Christmas decorations, and fashion finds. Lunch was given. That’s when we recharged our batteries, rested our feet, and regrouped to turn in a few more sale shopping hours.

I have to admit I scored some great finds this past week. A pair of pink velvet shoes from Frances Valentine (I love their shoes!), a pink cashmere sweater from Talbots, and silk pajamas from Petite Plume (they have a great selection of holiday pajamas for the whole family). And I put a dent in my gift-giving list, which is always a sigh of relief, especially since I have not one but two trips penciled in this month on top of the wedding. Tomorrow, I’m headed to Asheville, NC, complete with a day spent at the Biltmore Estate. Can you believe I’ve never been?! I hear it’s spectacular any time of year, but especially when it’s decorated for Christmas. Then, I’m headed for a week-long Mediterranean cruise that starts in Rome and ends in Barcelona. Stay tuned!

So what to wear to dinner in Asheville? I’m putting on the pink (again), but this time, the sleeveless cable knit sweater and wide-leg pants are paired with a blue velveteen blazer instead of the pink cropped jacket. And I added a festive touch with gold metallic wedges from J.Crew. Add a festive gold clutch handbag, and this girl is ready for a festive night out.

Asheville: If you can work in a lunch or brunch at Grove Park Inn, especially with a seat near the mountain overlook, I would recommend it. Also, not far from the The Biltmore is Corner Kitchen in Historic Biltmore Village (a shopping area) at 3 Boston Way for breakfast or lunch. I have been to Asheville hundreds of times (daughter attended UNC-A) … I hope you have a wonderful trip to N.C.!
