Kicking off the week in a comfy, cute, yet oh so casual ootd! Typically, I head out to dinner at one of my favorite restaurants once or twice a week. I don’t know about you, but I love to have a go-to outfit that I can pull together at a moment’s notice. It usually relies on wardrobe basics. Those items in your closet that aren’t necessarily sexy or have the bells and whistles, but can be relied upon time and time again to create an outfit fit to be seen. Today I am sharing a neutral fall outfit perfect for a night out.
Neutrals are the backbone of your wardrobe and help us get dressed in the morning. Black, white, gray, tan, navy, and earth tones. But don’t forget about green or burgundy. One of the biggest benefits of a neutral wardrobe is that everything goes together. Even if you’re wearing a pop of color, chances are that it won’t clash with the other pieces you have on.

As I mentioned before, when you have wardrobe staples in your closet that are neutrals it’s so easy to pull an outfit together. I started with a tan pleated skirt from Target (it’s been forever and a day since I’ve found anything remotely worth buying there…) and added a sleeveless tee (similar here, here, and here) from Talbots (yep, it’s still hot in this neck of the woods). A third layer is easily added if the temps are cooler where you live so I draped a black cardigan over my shoulders.
Block-heeled sandals from Stuart Weitzman are an investment, but since the black sandals go with everything and are on style repeat they definitely have an ROI. A quilted handbag from Tory Burch is also a great investment or you could splurge on the real deal from Chanel. But don’t forget about accessories. That’s what adds the P to personality.

Oh my word love the date night outfit!! Classy 💕
I’m so happy to hear you love the outfit! It’s classic and timeless!
Beautiful!! And tan and black are great together …
One of my all time favorite color combinations!
I love it! You make that pleated skirt look like a million bucks! Thank you, Beth, for always teaching your readers how to put together a lovely look.
Thanks, Judi! I was thrilled to finally find something at Target that caught my eye! It’s a well made skirt that will be styled countless ways!
I love it!
Thank you, Beth, for this suggestion!
My pleasure! Thanks for stopping by!
Thank you for today’s Fall outfit. I love the ladylike sandals. They allow the outfit to shine, while getting just the right amount of attention they, too, deserve. Still living through very high temps in Texas. Forecast is 99 today. Yet! Lately noticed it’s time to carry a scarf, sweater, or my denim jacket because it feels cooler while dining or shopping. Fall temps will surely arrive soon! 🤞Hugs!~
I’ve always loved tan and black together. The belt also adds interest to your outfit.
Beth, I was interested in your necklace. Thought it might be a gold coin necklace, but noticed (finally) in the last picture that it was not. What do you think about wearing real gold coin jewelry? Dated? Or classic enough to wear any time? Even with more casual outfits? I’d be interested in your opinion.
