once the middle of the week rolls around it’s nice to glam up a pair of denim, grab my main squeeze and head on out to date night. sometimes, date night is as casual as dinner and a movie. other times it’s enjoying a cocktail together or a concert, traipsing through a museum, or my favorite – sunday brunch. whatever suits your fancy it’s important to make time for that special someone in your life. if you’re flying solo like so many of us grab one of your best friends, put on some special duds, and go have FUN! i can’t emphasize enough how important it is to switch gears from your day-to-day life and actively plan outings. it’s good for the soul, ladies.
this week, date night was super casual, so i grabbed my Everlane white denim paired them with a J.Crew striped shirt then popped on a Banana Republic vest (old, similar here). and, yes, feel free to shop the men’s department from time-to-time or raid your husband’s closet. it works! to add some glamor and glitz to my ootd, i pinned a brooch on my vest, clipped on matching earrings, and hauled one of my favorite belts from storage that’s years old. i think this is the first outing with my latest shoe crush – Everlane’s day heel in patent leather although this comfy shoe comes in leather and a multitude of colors.

Hi Beth,
Thanks for all the gingham spring inspired outfits. While watching Something’s Gotta Give for the umpteenth time I realized what I’m missing from “fashion” these days is simple, classic and understated clothes that were worn by Dianne Keaton’s character in this movie. I’m also inspired by Jane Fonda’s wardrobe in Grace and Frankie. You would think this style would be easy to find but.. It is not. I would love to see simple, classic clothing posts no frills, crazy sleeves, patterns or pictures on the clothing. I’ve noticed you showcase Talbots and Ann Taylor frequently, and years ago they were my go to places too, but I rarely shop at these stores anymore. I’ve found their clothes have become “trendy and cutesy” over the last several years. My basics have had it but I can’t find replacements for them. I did buy the navy striped sweater from Everlane you posted on a while back. I’ve almost worn it out!
that is so funny you should mention Grace and Frankie. the stylist from that show just bopped over to my Instagram account. Here’s what she had to say:
allysonfanger Wow lady you are so โGraceโ style love it @styleatacertainage #graceandfrankie #saygrace ๐๐ผ๐ธ๐๐ปโค๏ธ
Beth,
I was so excited when I saw this outfit as I have been looking for a vest similar to this. I was equally disappointed to see that your similar option is actually a man’s vest. As I wear size 4P, there is no way it could work for me. I really appreciate your blogs and hope you will keep looking for ladies’s vests as will I.
Cheers,
Barb
if you are a size 4P i hope you bop into the boys department from time-to-time. you’ll find some great buys there.

Love the shoes, would really appreciate a full review on the shoes after a few wearing. I have a casual lifestyle, but they are gorgeous and would have to decide if I would get enough use out of a heel. Thanks!
would love to see that review as well…… So hard to find really comfortable shoes that do the hard work when rushing around town going from business meeting to business meeting . These shoes look like they may be the right ones but would love to see a review of them
the everlane shoes are definitely comfortable with a cushioned insole and block heels.

For some reason I had forgotten about my vests. I have two with openings and three that are “over the head”. Five new outfits! Many thanks.
so happy you found some inspiration, carole! that’s what the blog is all about.

Aren’t you very patriotic, too! Vests are a wonderful touch–I have a few of them and they can be practical, too, for an additional light layer. I always get compliments on a vest! i guess not everyone wears them? Enjoy your date night with Mr. Style. I agree that the time spent with loved ones is so important. Lets them know that they’re always at the top of the list!
if only this shirt would work for the fourth! if we lived in san francisco it would be perfect and i would be set for the holidays!
