in case you’re wondering when the last solar eclipse occurred, we’ll have to go back to 1979 – my university days. and the next one won’t arrive until april 2024. but that eclipse won’t be nearly as visible to as many peeps as the trajectory path will be much more limited in scope.
mr. style and i packed up and headed to sanford stadium – home to the georgia bulldogs – to view the event. the shindig was from 1 – 4 pm with free glasses doled out to the first 10,000 visitors. there was music playing like ‘here comes the sun’ – fitting, don’t you think? the entire eclipse was visible on the giant stadium screen in case you didn’t want to crane your neck and stare directly at the sun. this girl did both.
so what do you wear to an eclipse? well, when it’s hot i tend to grab a pair of shorts. especially if i’m walking up and down stadium steps. and let me tell you, it’s been hot down here the past week or so. august wasn’t going to let us off the hook temp-wise. dang! it’s truly been a delightful summer overall, a bit rainy, but not absurdly hot like our first summer.
these adorable striped sailor shorts won the day. they happen to be on sale over at Talbots. and i couldn’t resist adding a little pattern play into the mix with a striped cotton button-up. a white belt was added to break up the pattern. my favorite summer sandals are back in action. yes, this preplicious ootd needed the right twist and the ultimate preppy sandal, jack rogers, was just the ticket. a cute red camera handbag adds just the right punch to finish this outfit off.don’t you just love crossbody bags? the long strap lets you go hands-free..
now, where are those eclipse glasses? this is practically a once in a lifetime event! hope you enjoyed your day wherever your view was from.

I was fortunate enough to live a short drive from totality. You can be of a ‘certain age’ but you are never too old to be amazed and awed! Three cheers for our sun and moon.
Oh, fun! We have a green rooftop with solar panels on our building at work, and everyone headed up there for the festivities. It’s our new students’ orientation, and so we handed out glasses to everyone, and offered moonpies and sun chips. 😉 Last time I watched an eclipse, I did the old pinhole method.
I saw someone online who posted using a colander–and beneath it, one could see the crescents of the sun all over, below it. Very cool! The shadows from leaves on trees were also incredible.
Great post, outfit and fun.
What a great way to view the eclipse! You looked tres chic and cool. It didn’t get too dark here…just dark enough that the chickens started going to bed. They were embarrassed when the sun came back out. ha! xoxo
I’d little this post “Eclipse with style” – beautiful Beth.
