it’s the first friday in february. looks like we’re in the home stretch of winter. at least in athens. spring arrives early in the south. in six weeks or so we’ll see buds on trees and longer days. it’s a sight to behold, and i’m ready for nature’s spectacular show. at least our temps finally climbed up to the sixties today. so oscar and i took advantage of the milder temperatures and headed downtown. there’s a cute new coffee shop we wanted to check out. afterward, we took a spin around town.
for you movie enthusiasts i have a few good recommendations. mr. style and i love to go to the movies. while we don’t always like the movies we picked, it’s always a good outing. typically, we throw in dinner afterward, so it’s a fun evening out.
first up Three Billboards Outside Ebbings Missouri – this one is up for several academy awards. Frances McDormand was superb in this role as were the supporting cast. the second movie Lady Bird was briefly mentioned in another post. but what a sweet story with an excellent cast. loved the mother-daughter relationship. from the opening scene, you are hooked on this movie. the third movie is Hostiles. this movie is gripping, thoughtful, and will take your emotions through the gamut. but i loved the ending! a good solid storyline was the common theme of all three movies. each of these films actually had one! this gives me hope that hollywood will once again make movies based on a story. isn’t that what they’re supposed to do?
denim | similar silk tunic | similar trench coat | mules
today’s ootd is easy breezy. a trench coat similar here paired with skinny jeans and my gucci dupes from target. plus, a silk tunic i scored on sale at everlane similar here. trench coats are a classic staple that’s perfect for inclement weather. i’m wearing a short version with traditional details: khaki, double-breasted, wind or gun flap, epaulets, collar, belt, and flap pockets. when in doubt reach for a trench coat. it’s functional, classic, and i love the clean lines it offers. here’s a roundup of my favorites.
okay, gang, it’s friday, it’s february and it’s time for oscar and i to wish each of you a lovely weekend. go to a movie! just sayin’.

My husband and I are also big movie fans. We were pleasantly surprised by the last movie we saw – I, Tonya. It was fascinating! Of course we lived through the Olympics drama we all remember (we’re 62). But her earlier life was so interesting, sad, difficult, and the story was so interestingly told. Check it out.
thanks for the recommendation. i’ve been on the fence on this one but we’ll probably break down and see it. good to know you were pleasantly surprised.

Looking good again!! Happy weekend.

I am not a big movie goer but did really like The Post and The Darkest Hour. Oscar looks so happy to be walking about with his mom. Have a great weekend!
hi rebecca! we just saw The Post and loved it too. and the Darkest Hour was very well done. i love historical pieces and am a big fan of winstone churchill so it was a win/win.

Oh, all 3 of those movies have been on our list as well. We’re huge movie buffs. I haven’t had a chance to head to any of ’em yet, but I really want to see them all. Also want to see the Loving Vincent film that was created completely with individual paintings–thousands of them, in the style of Van Gogh. I’ve heard very good things about it from my artsy friends. And I want to see Gary Oldman in Darkest Hour. So many good films right now…
Years ago, when I lived near NYC, I’d run into the city to see every single film that ever came out, since they’d only be available for a while, but now, you can always “catch it on the re-run,” with all the availability of films you have access to! I have to admit I love that. Glad to hear they were good– I really think Target did great with those Gucci knockoffs–they’re the closest I’ve seen to the classic. Have a great weekend!
didn’t target deliver a fabulous gucci dupe?! and they’re quite comfortable too.
