Lightweight Linen Shirt and Shorts
a very happy first monday in June. this is the month when flowers bloom (i can smell my gardenias now), the bees buzz and then there’s father’s day celebrated on the third sunday of June. time to crank up the grill and flip those burgers. June is truly a glorious time of year. and the weather can be downright perfect. even here in georgia. of course, i’m on the hunt for casual tops and dresses to wear on those glorious days being dished up. summer is all about fun in the sun, and half the fun is wearing a lightweight linen shirt and shorts while i’m running errands or getting together with friends.
today’s ootd is from one of my all-time favorite designers. if you’ve been following the blog for any length of time, you just might know who it is. yep. good old Ralph Lauren is a go-to brand of mine. his classic style aesthetic makes my heart go pitter patter. when i spied this striped linen shirt and coordinating shorts, i knew it would make a great summer outfit. but since they’re separates i can mix and match each item to my heart’s content. there’s nothing better than hard-working items hanging in your closet.
the tunic linen shirt has a long tail that can easily be left untucked. but it’s light as a feather, so there’s no added bulk when it’s tucked in. the linen shorts have a self-tie belt that can be exchanged for one of your own or left in place.

this menswear-inspired shirt has an easy drape and feminine puffed sleeves.
white mules (old, similar here, here, and here) have a sensible heel and are perfect for summer.
the handbag by Madewell is old. it was purchased for our trip to Europe last year. but take a peek at similar bags here and here.

Hi Beth, lovely easy breezy outfit, the blue colours compliment each other. I saw you feature the shoes you are wearing in another post at some point, if it’s not those particular ones then alone similar. I thought they were different. I did get lucky and spotted some in a shop close to wear we live, it sells Italian style clothing and shoes so I bought them. They are a very pale pink with a deeper pink rose motif on the top so quite different. Xoxo
those pale pinks shoes sound yummy, julie! good for you to remember these shoes. they were purchased for our trip to europe and i tend to wear them A LOT in the summer. xo
Your posts would be MUCH more useful if you mixed in some close-up shots that made it possible to see the textures/accessory details etc. – which are often what make an outfit. Not that useful to (at least this) reader to see multiple shots from a similar distance.
thanks for the feedback, gail. typically we zoom in on accessories but since both the shoes and handbag were older items and not available to purchase we decided not to add a close-up. on most posts you will find close-up shots. hope this helps.
Love the look of your shorts and top. Beautiful colours.
Also, great length for woman’s shorts.
Thanks!
glad you liked the outfit, cathy! the top and shorts are so lightweight. perfect all summer long.
Love linen, not giving wrinkles (in my clothes, anyway) a second thought.
I always enjoy your looks. Very well put together
Beth,
Could you tell how you tie the belt,,, it looks sooo good.

Lovely blues–looks great for this time of year.
I LOVE Ralph Lauren. Unfortunately for me, I can only buy tops – his dresses, skirts, pants, and shorts are not made for my shape.
