it isn’t every week that there’s a double dose of oscar. but, hey, yesterday was a big day for him! yes, there’s a new pet in the djalali house and oscar was on the welcoming committee. or at least he tried to be. ‘cuz it’s hard to give up all the attention.
but he did his best. and having gone through numerous pet introductions through the years, and bringing home new siblings, mr. style and i knew going in it would take a few days of ‘getting to know you.’ but it’s time for the big guy to have a four-legged friend. even dogs need to learn how to share
so meet ollie, a maine coon cat that’s nine weeks old. at the moment she’s as big as a minute but will grow to be around fifteen pounds or so. some claim maine coon cats are the biggest cat breed. years ago when our kiddos were small they grew up alongside two dogs and one cat. and it was a great mix. cats and dogs can and do get along well. and i have to admit i’m quite excited to add ollie to our family. maine coon cats are not only sizeable but sociable. their nickname is gentle giants. they love water. and like to follow people around. maybe even a dog…
wish us luck as we get ollie and oscar acquainted. and have a terrific monday while you’re at it.

Ollie is a precious baby! My dear friend had a Main Coon that grew to 30 pounds! He was a big ol’ bundle of furry love. Enjoy your new arrival, I know Oscar will enjoy having a new buddy. ????
OMG 30 pounds of love! but i’ve heard they grow to be BIG. but then again oscar is on the large side himself.

I love your Blog and I’m sure Oscar and Ollie will become great friends! Can’t wait to see more pics!
thanks, lora! you will probably get sick and tired of me talking about oscar and ollie. and i promise more photos will be forthcoming.
xo
OH!!! SO CUTE!!! Love your blog too, but today its about the kitten. Sorry . . .
I come for the outfits and stay for Oscar and Ollie! Congratulations on your new addition.
awww, i think that’s the best compliment i’ve heard in a long time. thank you!
xo
Oh my gosh, she is so precious! I am looking so forward to seeing more of her! Lucky you!
i am one lucky girl, amy! what an amazing personality ollie has. and now oscar has a lifelong companion. and we do too.
xo
How adorable! Oscar and Ollie will become fast friends. We always had cats and dogs together. I read a series of cozy mysteries by Miranda James and in one of the series one of the main characters is a large Maine Coon called Diesel because of his distinctive purr. xoxo
i am definitely looking up that book series, donna. thanks for the tip!
xo
awwwwww. Ollie’s adorable. Oscar looks like the older sibling ready to help out–he’ll be great, I have no doubt. Fun that they’ll be playmates. We always had a cat and a dog, and they were good buds as well. My sister has the sweetest Corgie, named “Tucker,” and she has a cat, (“Maverick”). The Corgie is so friendly, and just loves the cat, but Maverick wants nothing to do with Tucker. Cracks me up.
ollie is just the best natured cat i have ever met, sue! tucker and maverick sound like a hoot! one thing’s for certain, pets keep you on your toes.
xo
Ollie is gorgeous! I’m sure Oscar will be a great big brother!
ollie is one terrific cat. beautiful and loving. what a winning combination. and oscar is so lucky to have a lifelong friend.
xo
Qllie is a cutie. Maine cooms have real personality.
OMG! i am so impressed with Maine Coon cats. so darn smart and so loving. we couldn’t be happier.
xo
What an adorable kitty. It looks like Oscar is smitten already. I have always loved animals and grew up with a series of wonderful, loving “mutts”. For the past 15 years, I have been the proud parent to rescue cats (first Percy and after his passing to Toby). Now I am a total “cat lady”!! Can’t wait to hear how the bonding goes between Oscar and Ollie. Oscar looks totally into the big brother mode.
i’m so happy to hear you have a wonderful companion in that apartment of yours! and i’m certain ollie will be bossing oscar around in no time. isn’t that the way it should be?
xo
Congratulations! That’s one adorable kitten. I predict they’re going to be great friends, and I look forward to seeing lots of pics! 🙂
stay tuned, judi! lots of pics will be forthcoming. just like oscar. and now he gets to share the limelight!
xo
So adorable!!!!
i have to agree, diane! we love ollie to bits.
xo
Awe! She is so adorable! They will both do fantastic if they start sharing right off the bat, probaby. I raised a german shepard and a cat…the dog would go out and get the cat by the back of her neck when I called and called for her..and they would sleep together…the cat on top of the dog…it was amazing and blessed to have them in my life as a single girl. They were little angels. Enjoy your sweet blessed angels, Beth <3
i hope our two get along as well as yours, linda! but i’m certain they will be best buds before too long.
xo
Just beautiful! Hmm …. Fridays with Ollie does have a nice ring to it too.
ha ha! it’ll be oscar (and ollie) but i know oscar will be happy to share his day.
xo
So beautiful, love him. Yes, Fridays with Ollie. 🙂
isn’t ollie gorgeous?! it’ll have to be oscar (and ollie) from time to time. but i don’t think oscar will mind sharing the limelight one bit.
xo
She is a beauty, and Maine Coons are very smart! I hope they become the best of friends. We just have plain old domestic short hair boys, but we love them all just the same. Enjoy that unconditional love!
ollie is every bit as smart as oscar. and i’m certain she will be bossing him around in no time. which he needs from time to time.
xo
Good luck with Ollie!! I am sure Oscar will learn to love him, as a cat owner I/m thrilled to be watching him grow. What fun a cat and a dog!! Blessing to you all
thanks, karen! we couldn’t be happier that ollie has joined our family. what a wonderful addition.

2 months after my hubby passed in 2013 I came across a beautiful faced but scraggy looking abandoned and pregnant female stray. I thought she was a gay tabby and took her in so she wouldn’t have to be out in the cold for the winter. One evening I was looking at her and realized she had the tufts on her ears. Was a surprise to realize she is, at least in part, Maine Coon. “Sabrina” filled out with good food and love and has become a beautiful cat. She certainly came into my life at the right time. Thank you for posting a picture that shows me what she probably looked like as a kitten.
Oh and Sabrina has lots of other kitty and doggie friends in the neighborhood.
what a lovely story, kimberly! thanks so much for sharing. and i’m so happy you opened your home and heart. what a wonderful companion you have.
xo
Adorable. Congratulations on the new addition to your family!
thanks so much! we are in love with this cat. what an agreeable personality.
xo
We had a Maine Coon for 16 years. They require a special kind of kibble when they’re older; they eat more often than any other cat, which is 11 times a day. They don’t do well with regular cat food. Also, of course, they need to be brushed almost every day, otherwise they develop terrible knots (which they can’t clean all by themselves). I loved my Maine Coon, she was wonderful, but they are a lot of work. Best wishes, your little one is the most adorable little girl I’ve seen in a long time. 🙂
thanks so much for the lovely advice, alison! isn’t ollie a beauty? and her personality? even better.
xo
Miss mine very much. Harley was one crazy kitty
i bet harley was! what an incredible breed maine coon cats are.
xo
Congratulations on your new one. I love mine. He is 8 months now. It’s true what they say…..dog-like traits. Mine started retrieving at 12 weeks. Loves water…..so careful about ear infections. The best part….the trill he makes. Enjoy!
i am so impressed with this breed! love ollie to bits already. she actually kisses our foreheads.
xo
Oh! Now I have serious pet envy! We live on a bird friendly estate that doesn’t allow cats. If I were ever to break the law it would be to own a Maine Coon. Love them and Love your blog. Like you, I’m 59 years old and I have 3 grown up sons. We live in Hillcrest, KwaZulu Natal, South Africa.

sounds heavenly, lesley!

How is Ollie doing?
