happy memorial day! this is a day to celebrate and honor the men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military. memorial day was originally known as decoration day. it started as a way to remember the fallen soldiers following the civil war. after the civil war ended in 1865 the country’s first national cemeteries were established. by the late 1860s, americans began holding springtime tributes to our fallen soldiers decorating their graves with flowers. it became an official federal holiday in 1971. today, americans observe memorial day by visiting cemeteries, participating in parades, and holding family gatherings.
this afternoon, it’s time to crank up the grill and flip a few burgers. we’re celebrating the old fashioned way with a traditional barbecue. and i’ve dished up two healthy memorial day desserts. even though FASTer Way to Fat Loss is all about progress, not perfection, there’s no reason we can’t make healthy choices even on a holiday. both recipes have a patriotic look with red white and blue going strong.
to get into the spirit of memorial day mr. style always hangs our flag and bunting.
a striped blazer sets the tone for my memorial day ootd that includes white board shorts, sleeveless white top, and red sandals (old, similar here and here).

what’s better than a fruit salad? unless it’s a patriotic fruit salad. this side dish is easy to assemble, healthy and is always a big hit since it’s shaped like a flag. bring this light, easy, festive side dish to your next summer cookout.
place the blueberries in a bowl or place them directly onto the platter. either way works.

these popsicles are easy to make and soooo delicious. but they melt quickly. pull them out of the freezer when you’re ready to serve. i used raspberries (mr. style’s favorite) for the red stripe. but strawberries would work just fine.
wishing each of you a happy and safe memorial day!

Love the fruit and yogurt covered pretzels placed on platter to resemble our flag. Very cute idea for healthy and something a little sweeter for those kids that might be at celebration.
Love this posting. God Bless you and yours on this Memorial Day.
Hi Beth, I agree with Cathy what a lovely posting with your idea’s, you should be proud. Enjoy the rest of the day xoxo
Love idea of adding pretzels to fruit salad tray. Great! You always come up with the best entertaining ideas. Thanks.
You always look great! What blush and lipstick do you wear?
I love the desserts and decorations. You also look great. One day can you tell us about your planters. The really are attractive.
Happy Belated! Love the fruit flag–I’ve done the cake in the past many times, but the fruit is an excellent idea! This year, I put together a bowl of red, white and blue fruit this year with strawberries, blueberries and apples (I used a star-shaped tiny hors d’oeuvres “cookie cutter” to make apple stars) then stuck toothpicks with flags in some of them, out of the fruit bowl. Worked well, too, and was festive.
