yesterday, i launched a mini-series focused on spring and summer jackets. even if those summer temps heat up outside inside air-conditioned office buildings, restaurants, malls, and movie theaters it can be downright frigid. first up in the blog series was a lightweight white cotton utility jacket that’s perfect to throw on over jeans, chinos, shorts, and skirts. today, it’s all about the mighty denim jacket or jean jacket. this hard-working closet staple is seen frequently on the blog. and it makes every top ten list i come up with. yes, it cycles in and out of style according to the fashion experts. but in my book, a denim jacket is timeless and trend-proof. and it can be worn any time of year. denim jackets are great for a breezy summer night or layer one under a winter coat. a denim jacket is seasonless and trendless. what’s better than that?
one reason i love a classic denim jacket is that it has casual, cool, and chic written all over it. and let’s not forget how versatile it is. wear it with blue jeans for a denim on denim look. or wear it with white jeans for a subtle contrast. even better dress it up with a dress or skirt like today’s ootd.
if it’s date night, then i like to jazz things up a bit. seeing as mr. style and i are headed to the last UGA concert of the year, the new york philharmonic string quartet, thursday night i thought i’d look a little extra special. but i guarantee it will be chilly inside hugh hodgson concert hall. so my tried and true denim jacket is coming along. it’s the perfect third layer popped over a simple black pleated skirt (old, similar here and here) and a white tee. black and white is the easiest color combo to perfect. all of us have at least one white tee or white shirt in our closets. same with black skirts, pants or shorts.
chandelier earrings (sold out, similar here and here) are perfect for date night. they add instant glamor to any outfit.

if i’ve said it once i’ve said it a thousand times. metallic shoes act as a neutral. they go with everything.
gold accessories are a perfect choice. notice how they tie the outfit together from head to toe. gold bangles add panache. stack as many as you like.

Totally agree. Classy lady!
Hi Beth,
Just loved this post…so simple, yet made special with the help of gold accessories. Of course it helps that it is worn by a very good looking lady! Look forward to your posts everyday.
Thank you, Julie
I love denim jackets and happily I am seeing many versions and colors in the stores. Your outfit looks perfect for so many occasions.
A million times, yes!!! And it plays well with all types of fabrics…
Love today’s outfit š
Another reason I love wearing my denim jackets is I get a chance to “fancy it up” with one of my sparkly antique brooches. They look gorgeous on denim.
Now this is my kind of outfit! You look absolutely amazing, subtle glamour, yet a timeless look that most ladies can replicate. Great!
Love the outfit but I would prefer your metallic strapy sandals with it. You look amazing, as always.
Iām getting into denim jackets this season and now have white, two blues and a black. š
I really appreciate the fact that you are showcasing jackets this week. Since along with the coolness of air conditioning in the summer those of us who live in the north jackets are a wardrobe staple in our closet year round. Thanks so much.
I really enjoy your Blog. Thanks so much for all the time and effort you must spend to do a blog daily.
Hi Beth, started following you a few months ago. I save your posts each day for my “me” time. I look forward to all of your looks and tips. I just bought my third jean jacket and I am looking forward to Friday night date night. Trying a new restaurant and plan to match your outfit. Thanks for always mentioning that metalic shoes are a neutral. Thank you for being a bright spot of every day.
I love your classic, timeless style, Beth! Thank you for the inspiration. I wear a cropped, deep-indigo denim jacket on nearly every warm-weather destination trip. It’s often the only jacket I bring. I wear it on the plane and on cooler evenings. It looks great over casual outfits as well as sundresses. It looks good with most shoes as well. I have several, but my favorite remains an inexpensive Elle brand I bought at, I believe, Kohls. Enjoy the day, ladies! š
Wow Beth ! I absolutely love this outfit proposal. The fabrics and layering plus the modern jacket look fab together.
