sometimes date night is as easy as 1.2.3. put on some heels, slap on red lipstick, grab a clutch handbag and we’re ready to roll. or so it goes on a busy weeknight. date night never needs to be fancy, and heaven forbid you to wait for a special occasion. nope, all that’s needed is your date, a venue, and some special duds. it doesn’t hurt to add a bauble or two.
today’s ootn features a favorite color combo of mine – navy and black. every once in a while navy blue is so dark it’s hard to tell if it’s blue or black. when my mom was alive i can’t tell you how many times we bantered back and forth on this very topic, scratching our heads wondering “what color is this dang item anyway?” sometimes, the decision was rendered only after hauling out a decidedly little black dress and comparing the items side-by-side. can you tell what color my turtleneck is? if i hadn’t popped on a black blazer with navy trim on the collar you might have mistaken it for black. am i right?!
but the blazer from J.Crew is decidedly black, the cashmere turtleneck from Everlane navy blue, and the denim from Ann Taylor? well, it’s safe to say they’re blue trimmed with a velvet side stripe that gives a festive upgrade. the suede pumps are navy, the handbag black (similar here). and my lips? there’s no guesswork when it comes to red except for the fact there are a gazillion shades of red and one will look fantastic on you! the shade i’m wearing today is pirate by Chanel.

Beth, could you tell me how the velvet trimmed jeans fit? Love how they look on you. I like a slim/straight/not so skinny jean. If they are more of a jegging, I will need to pass. Did you buy your normal size? Thanks.
that can be a hard question to answer! these blue jeans are definitely a slim fit more like a jegging but not as snug a fit as a typical jegging. i’m wearing a size 8 which i typically wear with Ann Taylor. hope this helps! xo
I just did the frantic navy/black comparison yesterday morning. Love that combo and also black/brown, both very sophisticated! For date nite, kudos to ladies doing 1 OR 2 OR 3, but the triple threat is outstanding!!
i love black and brown too! both are menswear inspired color combos that are perfectly chic. happy holidays, sophia! xo
