Happy Thursday! We’re in that awkward time of year when it’s still too hot to wear fall clothes, but all the fall clothes are hitting the racks and shelves! Today I am sharing a denim shirtdress that feels very summery because of its floral print, but a denim shirtdress is one of those wardrobe items that can work all year long, depending on how you style it. While I may not wear this particular denim shirtdress beyond September, I do have another style in my closet that does work all year long! So today, let’s deep dive into denim shirtdresses!

The shirtdress I am wearing today is nearly sold out, so I decided to pivot this post to focus more on the versatility of a denim shirtdress, rather than this particular dress. This Sleeveless Collared Denim Mini Dress, and how I have styled it, is definitely all about summertime. But it’s super easy to style a classic denim shirtdress for fall, winter and spring.
As summer wanes, the denim shirtdress styles go from short sleeve and sleeveless to long sleeves. You can definitely wear your sleeveless or short sleeve denim shirtdress in cooler weather, just top it off with a cardigan, blazer, or chore jacket.
When temperatures dip, long sleeve dresses are perfect! Top with a chunky fisherman sweater for a cozy look that is comfortable and easy. Add autumn colors like browns, greens and warm purples with your accessories for a look that perfectly straddles summer and fall.
For really cool temperatures, which I can hardly imagine at this moment, go for a darker rinse, long sleeve, midi or maxi length denim dress like this Denim Shirtdress by Ralph Lauren, or this one from Talbots. They are both priced about the same and both are perfect for fall and winter.
Western looks are trending this year, and honestly, this is a trend that will never fully go out of fashion. Whether it’s jeans, a chambray shirt or a denim dress, denim in and of itself is a classic style that is here to stay.
As I mentioned, we are still experiencing summer here in Georgia, and so my outfit today is styled for summer. In fact, Alex and I are headed out for our summer trip to Tybee island next week and I think this dress will be a perfect casual summer vacation dress. It’s Alex’s 40th birthday and we have a plan to spend his birthday in Savannah while we are at Tybee.

Styling such an easy dress leaves you with a lot of options. To dress up my look I went with Castañer Denim Blue Espadrille Wedges. I have had these espadrille wedges for several years. If you love espadrilles, Castañer is worth the investment, their espadrilles are beautifully made of high-quality materials. Each year they have a slightly different denim version and I have found that a denim blue espadrille is incredibly versatile.

I purchased the Dumpling Bag from Loft late this summer, but I have already gotten so much use out of it! It’s become a go-to bag in these waning days of summer and I know come next summer, I will be reaching for it again and again! I might even buy the Cape Blue version since it’s now 50% off – at only $40 – it’s worth having in a couple of colors!
