technically speaking, the “dog days of summer” last from July 3rd to August 11th. it’s the height of hot and humid weather, so it’s only fitting i squeeze in a dog days of summer outfit. but what are the dog days of summer anyway? well, it goes back to the ancient Romans who associated the hottest days of the year with the rising star Sirius, known as the dog star. and you thought it was due to the fact dogs loaf around on a hot, humid day. although, it’s easy to slow down when the temps soar, reach for a cool drink, and slip into something comfy. i don’t know about you, but i’m always trying to figure out how to beat the heat in style, especially in August.
this week is a short one for me as i head to the beach on Thursday. can you say excited? don’t worry; there will still be regular posts while i’m gone. but i do have a beach photoshoot scheduled, which will make an appearance in a week or two. yours truly has to be at the beach at 6:46 am to catch the sunrise… have i mentioned mornings are not my best time of day? oh sure, i’m up every day between six and seven in the morning. that’s when i reach for a cup of coffee and ease into my day. and i do mean ease. mr. style who was the morning person personified learned early on in our marriage that it was best not to have conversations with me until well after 10 am. it’s been that way my entire life! but i wanted to knock off the photo session ASAP so i can enjoy time with the fam and loll around on the beach all weekend without a care in the world. that early photo session will be worth it. right?!
if you are looking for a cute and comfy tee shirt dress that doesn’t break the bank, then you will love this camo dress from Target. if camo isn’t your thing, it comes in four other colors. it’s made from 100% cotton with two side slits. since i wanted a bit more shape to this dress, i tied one of the sides into a knot. gold metallic espadrilles (similar here and here) from Franco Sarto add a little glitz and glam along with a gold hobo handbag from Michael Kors (similar here and here).
there are always lots of questions about my jewelry. some pieces are old, old, old, while some pieces are new. today, it’s a mish-mash of old and new. Tory Burch is a favorite designer of mine. Lagos too. the apple watch band is from the Caviar collection from Lagos, as is the lapis bangle. the leather double wrap bracelet (similar here and here) and gold hinge bracelet are from Tory Burch. the long necklace sports Tory’s iconic double T that can be doubled up or worn long. it’s classic and sporty yet subtly sophisticated. it goes with everything!

Cute idea, knotting the side. I do that to my long tunics sometimes. I love camo. It is a neutral. These shoes look great with this dress. Have loads of fun. I’m blessed to live on the Coast so I’m always on vacation. LOL
you are on vacay 365 days a year!
just ordered the camo dress from your blog…it was the last one left in M.
Loved the dress when you wore it when we were there! You always look so CUTE!
Jan
so do you, girlfriend! miss you!
Love the dress. Bought it immediately.
i think you will love the dress. perfect for a hot summer or fall day.
So cute! Thank you for the idea of tying up one side of a column dress…very right on!
Have fun at the beach!
it helps give the dress some shape. i promise to have fun at the beach!
Cute outfit. Love the espadrilles, but they’re unfortunately no longer available, boo! I love how you tied a knot in the dress…and got it to stay! I’ve tried that with tops and they never stay knotted! I’ll have to practice more, unless you have a tip?!
Have fun at the beach, lucky you. Will look forward to your beach photo shoot and posts about your vaca! I love August! We’re headed to the beach on Sunday!
i just make sure the knot is snug. and the espadrilles are available on Amazon. limited sizes at Macy’s.
Love your outfit! What do you wear under a t-shirt dress?!? A slip?
i don’t wear a slip. and this fabric is substantial so it’s not see-through.
So cute and fresh for hot, humid days! I appreciate the more affordable option especially near the end of a season.
i always say style has many price points!
