Looking for a casual outfit that has a little extra something? I always call it the yin and yang of fashion. That’s when I pair something casual with something extra special. When it comes to fashion, there's a wonderful balance between comfort and style. The perfect formula for a stylish yet relaxed outfit is a good pair of casual jeans paired with an eye-catching top. That’s how you can add a fun twist to your look, making your outfit pop and in the process showing off your unique personality. When we upgrade our wardrobe with playful casual jeans and a statement top it creates a fun and stylish outfit.

Let’s start with the foundation: casual jeans. Y’all know I’m a blue jean mama at heart. And there are so many jean silhouettes to choose from these days. Depending on your style, you can choose from —skinny, straight-leg, cropped flare, or wide-leg. Opt for a light wash for a laid-back feel or a darker wash for a more polished look. You could also experiment with distressed jeans for an edgy vibe if that floats your boat. The key is to select a pair that fits well and complements your body shape.

Now that you have your perfect jeans, it’s time to find a top that makes a statement. Here are some ideas to make your outfit stand out:
Graphic Tee: A graphic tee with a fun design or a catchy slogan is a great way to inject personality into your outfit. Pair it with your jeans or skirt, and you’re set for a casual day out.
Statement Blouses: Look for blouses with unique textures, bold colors, or interesting patterns. A ruffled top or one with dramatic sleeves can elevate your outfit from basic to fabulous effortlessly. Consider tops with fun embellishments like sequins or embroidery for that extra pop. I love this crochet sequin top from J.Crew that ticks all the boxes.
Accessories can make or break an outfit. When you have a special top, consider pairing it with the right accessories. Here are some suggestions:
Layered Necklaces: Delicate chains or bold statement necklaces can draw attention to your neckline and enhance your top.
Fun Earrings: Whether it’s oversized hoops or colorful studs, earrings can add character to your outfit. When in doubt gold hoop earrings are always a good choice.
Stylish Bags: A fun handbag can serve as the cherry on top. Try a bold color or an unusual shape that complements your outfit.
Today’s ootd incorporates cropped flare jeans from Madewell and a crochet sequin tank from J.Crew. Don’t forget that belts are a great accessory to invest in as they last for years. I recently purchased this rainbow belt from Kurt Geiger that matches this rhinestone handbag that adds a whole lot of fun to this outfit. Gold metallic block heels from Frances Valentine are a go-to shoe of mine as they act as a neutral. Do you know that sunglasses add instant style to any outfit? They’re my instant style go-to.
Don’t forget about your shoes! Footwear can quickly transform your look. Sneakers can maintain a casual vibe, while ankle boots or heels can provide a more sophisticated touch. Don’t shy away from colorful or patterned shoes that harmonize with your outfit and add a playful element.

Layering can be a brilliant way to add depth to your outfit. A lightweight jacket, denim jacket, or even a stylish cardigan can add another layer of interest. Choose colors that complement your top and jeans without overwhelming the ensemble. I don’t know about you but I can’t wait for the weather to cool down so I can add that third layer!
Ultimately, the best accessory you can wear is confidence. Own your look, and let your personality shine through. When you feel good in what you’re wearing, it shows!
Ladies, dressing casually doesn’t mean sacrificing style. When we choose the right jeans and pair them with an extra special top, you can create an outfit that's both fun and effortlessly chic. And that in a nutshell is the yin and yang of style!

You always look so stylish. But in my own mind, the block heel shoes look older rather than a sparkly sandal. I always feel my age when I wear a structured shoe vs. a casual updated shoe style.
Hi Stephanie,
Thanks for stopping by and sharing your thoughts. Sparkly sandals would be a great choice for this outfit. Accessories like shoes handbags, etc… are the icing on the cake and showcase your personality. If you don’t like the gold block heel that’s the easiest thing to change if this outfit was an inspiration.
Hope to hear from you again!
Seriously…belly showing at 12 is trashy. Belly showing in a too short top at 60 something is beyond..Sorry not on with this look
Thanks for stopping by Kathleen! The blog shares daily style inspiration so if the outfit isn’t for you then it isn’t. I love to share that style is always about personal preference. Women are a variety pack not cookie cutters. Thank goodness! A quick style fix for this top would be high waisted pants that way when your arms are lifted the tummy wouldn’t show.
I hope you share your thoughts next time on an outfit you love! One thing’s for certain, there will always be another outfit.
Boy did you handle that beautifully, Beth!
Aren’t you sweet?! Thank you!
Agree, belly showing is not “style at a certain age”. Maybe better on the DILs? As Beth says, to each her own!
