Who remembers Sweater Weather from Saturday Night Live? It was a cute segment with Amy Pohler and Maya Rudolph singing the praises of sweater weather. And if there’s one addiction I may have, it’s adding another sweater to my closet. I blame it all on my Midwest roots, as I will always love coats, jackets, and the almighty sweater. But the leaves are beginning to change, and the air is turning crisp, so we all know sweater weather has arrived. This beloved season signals more than just a shift in temperature; it invites us to embrace comfort, warmth, and a touch of nostalgia.

Sweater weather is more than just a physical change; it’s a mood. The days grow shorter, and twilight creeps in earlier, encouraging us to cozy up in our favorite knitwear. Whether it’s the soft wool of a cable knit or the lightweight feel of a cardigan, there’s something inherently comforting about pulling on a warm sweater.
Today’s outfit is all about a simple cable-knit cardigan, a timeless classic that never goes out of style. Cardigans can sometimes look stuffy, so I love mixing things up to give them a modern edge. A silk blouse and faux leather jeans add texture, but it’s the square-toe loafers that add that little extra something and keep this outfit firmly rooted in 2024.

This season also marks the transition from summer’s carefree spirit to autumn’s introspective atmosphere. It’s a time for hot drinks, pumpkin spice lattes, and cozy evenings spent by the fire or curled up with a good book.
When it comes to sweaters, the choices are endless. Here are a few popular styles to consider for this season:
Chunky Knits: Perfect for layering, chunky sweaters offer both warmth and texture. Pair them with skinny jeans or leggings for a balanced silhouette.
Turtlenecks: A wardrobe staple, turtlenecks not only keep you warm but can also be dressed up or down. Wear them under a blazer for a chic office look or over a dress for an effortless vibe.
Cardigans: Versatile and easy to throw on, cardigans are ideal for fluctuating temperatures. Look for oversized options that provide comfort and style in equal measure.
Sweater Dresses: When you want to feel cozy but still look polished, a sweater dress is the way to go. Pair it with knee-high boots for a stylish autumn outfit.
Sweater weather encourages us to take advantage of the outdoors. Whether it’s a hike through colorful fall foliage or a brisk walk in the park, the cool air is invigorating. Don't forget to pack a thermos of hot cider or cocoa to enjoy along the way!
On days when you prefer to stay inside, sweater weather is the perfect excuse to enjoy a movie marathon, host a cozy dinner with friends, or start a new crafting project. Embrace the downtime with a good book and a warm blanket, surrounded by the comforting scent of cinnamon and autumn spices.
As we step into the season of sweaters and warm drinks, let’s celebrate the little moments that come with it. From the joy of pulling on your favorite knit to the simple pleasure of enjoying nature’s vibrant transformation, sweater weather is a reminder to slow down and savor the beauty around us.
So, grab your coziest sweater, step outside, and embrace all the warmth and charm this season has to offer! Happy sweater weather!

Hi Beth! I love sweaters too, and have several classic cable knits in neutrals as you show and in colors.
I seem to lean more towards Talbot’s for the classic styles. I like cardigans the best for their ease of on and off. I would love suggestions on how to store sweaters.
I hang most of mine, except for the very heavy ones. I know hanging isn’t suggested, but when I put them in drawers, no matter how I fold them, they are wrinkled when I pull them out! So frustrating. I probably have about 150 sweaters, so it’s a real issue for me. Right now, spring sweaters are hanging in a spare closet. All fall/winter sweaters are hanging in my main (small) closet in the master bedroom. I have one designated drawer in a dresser for the heavier sweaters. Summer sweaters are in a clear bin in the basement. The struggle is real! Lol. Any suggestions you may have would help! Thanks.
