it’s always a good day when the sun is shining and blue skies prevail. those are the days you love to spend outdoors, even if the weather is a bit nippy. whether it’s a walk around the block, darting in and out of your car between errands, or chilling on the patio in your favorite chair, a third layer is a must to stay warm. oh sure, i could bundle up in a lightweight coat (i have more than one thanks to my days in Minnesota), but i like to stave off cold-weather gear as long as possible. so instead of grabbing a quilted barn jacket, i like to reach for a blazer to stay warm and stylish. one of my all-time favorite blazers is borrowed from the boys. it’s a classic that never goes out of style. that’s the beauty of classic style. it has legs to stand on for years and years. in fact, the mighty blazer is part of my style uniform – the 4B’s – blazer, button-down, blue jeans, and ballet flats. this is the preppy aesthetic i’ve loved since a teen. and i can guarantee i have a grey herringbone blazer hanging in my closet. it’s a fall neutral that goes with just about anything and everything.
as i mentioned, there are multitudes of ways to wear a grey herringbone blazer. dress it up with a grey sweater and charcoal pants and you are dressed for success. or dress it down with a hoodie and black skinny jeans. get creative and introduce brown casual boots to the equation, and you have an easy to create look you can rock any day of the week. and i love love, love to wear a grey herringbone blazer with blue jeans and a chambray shirt for a comfortable outfit that’s pulled together.
but i also love to mix up my style uniform from time to time, keeping it modern and fresh. for a casually edgy look, why not wear a grey herringbone blazer with white jeans? both are from J.Crew. shake up your getup by slipping into a pair of snake print platform sneakers. add a grey cashmere turtleneck that’s back in stock, a quilted black handbag from Talbots, and you’ll look truly sharp all day long.
this classic grey herringbone blazer has a relaxed fit that hits below your hip. it’s a true classic with a modern twist. the white denim includes a classic button fly front, high waist, and a straight cropped leg. some white jeans are see-through, but not these. and they don’t stretch out. i am wearing a size 8 in both the blazer and denim, and both fit TTS.

if you are looking for cute but comfortable shoes, then think sneakers. for the past two years, i’ve been loving platform sneakers that add a modern twist to your ensemble.

Love the OOTD. This could be a go anywhere look for me. Set up a sale alert on the purse – gotta have it! Enjoy your week!
Absolutely LOVE your look today! Classic and classy is what you are, Beth! Feeling quite inspired. Will aim to copy this look this Fall. Already comfortably doing white jeans or capris (capris because my part of Texas is still hot!). White jeans will definitely be in my winter outfits this year, thanks to you. Keep the inspiration coming!~
Always looking good Beth! I look to you each morning for inspiration.
Can’t wait till it it chilly enough for long sleeves, much less layers! Here at our Sierra Nevada cabin, it’s still around the low 80’s, and home in the Bay Area it will be 85 degrees today. Only 2 or 3 days below 75 in the 10 day forecast. It usually cools down right around Halloween, so hopefully another couple of weeks and I can be in a sweater rather than todays t-shirt!
Hi Beth,
I just ordered a gray herringbone blazer from Talbots. Thanks for the ideas on how to wear it. I would never have thought of white jeans. I have always put my white jeans in my out of season closet at this time of year but I won’t this fall. I’ve not seen anyone in Michigan wear white jeans in the fall or winter I may be the first, a trend setter? Thank you so much for your blog. I look forward to it every day
I would love to see your ideas on
14 days at home in quarantine, but still cute and stylish! You have the best ideas!
