Hello and Happy Thursday! As you all know, Beth’s middle son is getting married soon, so I am sharing a Fall Wedding Guest Dress for Petites today. The ensemble I am wearing is what I plan to wear to the rehearsal dinner, which will be held in historic downtown Savannah. We get relatively few opportunities to dress up, so I am taking advantage of the situation with a new dress!

Strapless Ruched Dress
The Strapless Ruched Dress is sold in petites, but it still seems to fall a bit longer on me than the model on the website. I haven’t made any alterations, though I may shorten it slightly so it falls just below my knee, rather than lower-calf.

The fabric is a blend of cotton, viscose, linen, and elastane so it has a lot of forgiving stretch, which is very comfortable for a form-fitting dress. This “only-at-Anthro” material blend is shaping and it holds you in without feeling tight and restrictive. The cotton and linen do mean it has a wrinkle factor. While it’s machine washable, I might opt for dry cleaning to get a more polished finish.

Since I am wearing this as a fall wedding guest dress, I went with knee-high boots. These Shutz Magalli Knee-High Boots are surprisingly comfortable for a pointed-toe boot with a 3.5-inch stiletto heel.

You could go in a variety of directions with your outer layer. I opted for a cropped sequin tweed jacket. This one is old, from J.Crew, but here is a Similar Sequin Tweed Jacket. To go in an edgier direction, I might choose my Washed Leather Moto Jacket. Or to glam it up a bit, I could go with a faux fur jacket.

hmmm, I would leave it that length if you think you will ever wear it with heels for a dressier look (and you definitely should!), or maybe just a couple of inches shorter. For the boots: if you shorten the dress to just below the knee, you will be losing out on the sexy back slit–becomes just a mere slit. So I would not shorten any more than just the top of your calf. It looks great on you, and I think the length is fine with the jacket and boots. I would take a picture with heels and see if you like the length as is with that footwear before deciding.

This colour is amazing on you Kelly! And I’m also in camp no-shorten. The slit at the back is a great feature and shortening the dress you’d lose that drama. This feels like such a versatile dress with the other styling ideas you’ve given too – liking the idea of it with your biker jacket for a date night to a bar for example, or with strappy sandals and a wrap for a spring wedding or restaurant date night.
