Happy Thursday, Ladies! We have been talking a lot about fashion trends for 2024 so far this fall and it got me thinking about how this might be one of the best trends year in recent memory. With so many iconic silhouettes like menswear-inspired suiting and wide-leg trousers; classic colors like burgundy and red, and of course the big return of leopard print, it seems easier than ever to feel confident and look chic in current trends. Speaking of trends, the classy lady jacket is here again this season and I jumped on this trend with a fringe-trim lady jacket.
Today, Kelly shares one of the biggest fashion trends of 2024 - the Lady Jacket

This Fringe-Trim Lady Jacket is from J.Crew, which has a huge variety of Lady Jackets and Lady Sweaters this season. And, though it’s not a knit version, I am really happy to see they’ve brought back the Quilted Lady Puffer Jacket since it’s become one of my favorite jackets – I have one in black, and last year I purchased the white version. Hopefully, they’ll bring that one back too!
What makes a Lady Jacket? Typically, Lady Jackets have a boxy cropped bodice shape, elegant jewelry-like buttons or snaps, small pockets on the front, and some texture, made in fabrics like tweed or woven yarn.
This year, the lady jackets are so popular we are seeing lady jacket styles in denim and leather, as well as tweed, marled yarn, and quilted fabric.
What I love about a lady jacket or cardigan is that they’re a great way to dress up your denim, like I have done today. Lady jackets are typically cropped, or hip-length so they are also great to wear over dresses and skirts.
This marled yearn Fringe-Trim Lady Jacket also comes in a grey/ivory color combination. I wanted to have a looser fit, so I sized up one size, I am wearing a regular size small. The looser fit is very comfortable and I can wear this jacket as a top, or over a blouse comfortably. The marled yarn is soft and I love the shine of the gold snaps.
Wide-leg and trouser-style jeans are everywhere this year! The pair I am wearing are a couple of years old, from Mother. But J.Crew has a really nice wide-leg trouser jean with a handsome wide hem available.
My boots and handbag are from last year, but because croc-embossed accessories are trending right now, there is a wide variety of croc-embossed leather out there. And, like we’ve talked about a lot lately, merlot and various tones of maroon are easy to find too. Of course, gold shoes and handbags are widely available in all kinds of styles to suit your taste. I found very similar boots with the Marc Fisher Ankle Booties; and a similar handbag with the Michael Kors Greyson Satchel.

Kelly,
Your hair looks fabulous!!
And I also love lady jackets.
Thank you, Leila! xo Kelly
What Kelly said. Love the hair and love the lady jacket.
Thank you, Judy! xo Kelly
I love this particular lady jacket and tried to order it but the burgundy color is out of stock. Prefer that color so will wait for it.
Thank you for stopping by, Bonnie! Sorry that color is out of stock in your size. Hopefully it won’t be long before they restock it! xo Kelly
Kelly you are looking terrific. I have noticed that your overall look has become “softer” with the hair highlights and embracing more color in your clothing. I too am only 5 ft and am having difficulty finding tops that aren’t too long including the J Crew jacket. Few stores carry petite sizes. My proportions have changed with vertebral disk loss.
Hi Carla, it’s true that petite clothes can be hard to find. I usually have very good luck at Talbots, Ann Taylor, Loft, and Banana Republic Factory. I hope that helps! xo Kelly
Hi Kelly,
I’m with the prior commenter – your hair looks great! I love the lady jacket styles too. I’m a classics girl for life.
Thanks so much, Celine! xo Kelly
