Golden Moments and the Golden Bachelor

Embracing the Golden Season

Every season tells a story, and fall has always been one of my favorites. There is something about the way the light changes, the way it turns everything golden, that reminds me to pause, reflect, and celebrate the simple beauty in everyday life.

This yellow plaid jacket captures that mood perfectly: bright yet structured, cheerful yet classic. But as much as I love the fashion, what really resonates with me this season is the reminder that confidence does not come from clothes alone. It comes from how we live our lives.

Life Beyond Style: The Beauty of Small Rituals

As women, we often measure seasons by what fills our calendars. In our 50s and 60s, our daily schedules look very different from what they did twenty or thirty years ago. Some of us are still working, others are easing into retirement. Many are helping with grandchildren, volunteering, traveling more, or finally taking the time to explore passions that were once put on hold.

It’s easy to measure life by what fills our calendars, but life beyond style is measured by the smaller rituals that give us grounding:

  • A morning walk with coffee in hand
  • Setting the dinner table with care, even on a weeknight
  • Calling a friend just because
  • Slipping on a blazer that makes you stand taller

These small choices may seem insignificant, but together they create a rhythm of confidence and grace.

Beth’s Style Tips: Chic Fall Layers

Fashion may not define us, but it can certainly empower us. Here are a few of my favorite fall styling tips:

  • Add Color with Confidence: A pop of yellow, burgundy, or forest green instantly elevates basics.
  • Invest in Classics: A well-tailored blazer and structured handbag are timeless.
  • Mix Textures: Pair denim with tweed or cashmere for depth and interest.
  • Polished Footwear: Gold flats, loafers, or ankle boots add shine without sacrificing comfort.

The goal is style that feels effortless and distinctly you.

A Reflection on Confidence, Change, and the Golden Bachelor

Fall always brings transitions. The trees shed their leaves, the air grows crisp, and we adjust our wardrobes. It is nature’s way of reminding us that change is not only natural but necessary.

At this stage of life, I find myself embracing change with a softer heart. Confidence no longer means perfection. It means being present. It means laughing at small mistakes, appreciating laughter lines, and giving myself permission to enjoy today.

Speaking of golden moments, did you catch the premiere of The Golden Bachelor? I had a small group of friends over, snacks on the table, glasses of wine poured, and we watched every dramatic second. Let’s just say, Mel certainly gave us something to talk about. The show is entertaining, no doubt, but here is the inside scoop. I was actually interviewed for the series two years ago and politely declined.

Why? Because women at a certain age deserve better than being squeezed into a franchise designed for twenty-somethings. Pool parties, champagne toasts, rose ceremonies… cute in your thirties, but at sixty? It feels like a script that does not fit the role.

And did you catch the living arrangements? Bunk beds and shared bathrooms. Really? At this stage of the game? That is not romance, that is summer camp. Women in their fifties, sixties, and seventies bring wisdom, grace, and resilience to the table. We deserve a format that highlights that.

Until the networks catch on, I will keep celebrating golden moments my way. Gathered with friends, sharing laughter, wearing clothes that make me feel confident, and embracing the beauty of this season of life.

Closing Thoughts: Celebrating Golden Moments

As the leaves turn and the days shorten, I am choosing to lean into golden moments. The laughter with friends, the confidence in a favorite jacket, the quiet joy of a slow morning. Life beyond style is about embracing change with grace and celebrating the beauty of everyday living.

Proud of you for saying no! I have not been impressed with the “Gentlemen” they’ve picked to be the so called Golden Bachelor. And, you are so right: bunkbeds? Shared bathrooms? I think not!

  2. GLG

    I have this jacket-fabulous.

  3. Sherry Ulrich

Love tweed blazers. I love blues but yellow is not my favorite to wear. I have a couple of tweed blazers that I am anxious to wear. Blues and pinks for me. I am also excited for the plum and reds this Fall. Will not be in my blazers and jeans for another week or two. We got a warm spell here in Minnesota. High 70’s and 80’s here the past couple of weeks. Not that I am complaining. Winter will be here before we know it.

Spot on Beth on the Golden Bachelor. Glad you passed, you’re much too classy for that show. ❤️

  5. Deborah

Amen to your opinion of the Golden Bachelor. It’s almost insulting

  6. Blue Kentucky Girl

I respect your decision to pass on “The Golden Bachelor”. Although it may have been good for your brand, it may have cost you personally. With your grace and wisdom l, you get to do the choosing! And, hey, you probably wouldn’t have even really liked the guy 😉

    1. Beth Djalali

Thank you! Honestly, it was an easy decision, and I’ve never looked back. Some opportunities just aren’t worth the trade-off—besides, I prefer choosing my own leading man 😉

Not sure how that happened. My fall golden moment is an early morning pumpkin spice latte on my patio. Loved the jacket – it sold out pretty quickly!

    1. Beth Djalali

Not sure how that happened either! My fall golden moment is an early morning pumpkin spice latte on the patio. 🍂☕ And thank you—the jacket did sell out quickly, but I’ll keep an eye out for a restock! J.McLaughlin typically does restock. xo

One of your cutest outfits ever! And oh do I appreciate your thoughts on the Golden bachelor!

    1. Beth Djalali

You’re so sweet—thank you! 🍁 That outfit was such a fun one to style. And yes, I had to share my two cents on The Golden Bachelor…sometimes real life is much more entertaining 😉 xo

    Hi Beth,
In the article with the yellow jacket on I think it looks
great with your gray hair. My hair is very white. I think
if I wear yellow it will make me washed out. What is
    your opinion.
By the way, I really like your email.
    Kathy

      Hi Kathy,
Thank you so much! I truly believe anyone can wear yellow—you just need to find the right shade. A bright, saturated yellow might feel too harsh against white hair, but a softer buttercream, a warm marigold, or even a golden mustard can actually brighten your complexion. It’s all about playing with undertones. If you feel washed out, try adding a scarf or necklace near your face in a color you know flatters you—white hair makes jewel tones pop beautifully! And thank you for the kind words about my emails—I’m so glad you enjoy them.

Beth, I loved your comments on the Golden Bachelor. You would have been a prize, but you were not looking for that format. I married at 76 for the second time. He appreciates me at this age, not pretending to be 35.

  12. Ann

Great article, especially the part about living and enjoying life in our 60’s (and 70”s!!) and not being “squeezed into a franchise designed for twenty-somethings!!! I am enjoying life in my 70’s and your articles and perspectives always make me feel excited to see what the next years hold for me!

  13. Carol

I totally agree with you about the golden bachelor. Kudos for saying no.
