Good morning! And a very happy Monday. Can’t believe it’s the last Monday in January. February is fast approaching, which means all things Love abound. We’ll share our Valentine’s roundup on Wednesday, including five gorgeous shades of red lipstick. Stay tuned! In Sunday’s newsletter, we shared some exciting news! This February, we’re launching a podcast called Message from Mom. The first three episodes have been recorded and will be released on YouTube! Two of my daughters-in-law, Kelly and Chelsea, are my co-hosts, and they’re asking questions about romance, dinner parties, and wedding etiquette. Join us as we bust the myth that mothers-in-law aren’t necessarily monsters in law. And if you have thoughts or questions about future episodes, drop them in the comments below. Today is all about How to Create a Sophisticated Yet Effortless Look.

Mother nature has been a fickle creature in Georgia the past week. We went from freezing temps to rain and the 70s. This week doesn’t look too bad, as the lows are in the 30s, but the highs are in the 50s with clear skies. The weather always plays a critical role in what to wear. As a matter of fact, there are only two style rules I follow: dress for the weather and dress for the occasion. Nope, I have no idea what “age-appropriate” means or who would be in control of what we can or cannot wear at any given age. Shorts? Sleeveless tops? Skirts above our knees? Those questions and answers are completely individual. Just remember, clothes have sizes, not ages.
Today’s ootd is casual yet perfect for Monday, whether you’re running errands, having lunch with the girls, or headed to the office. Lady Cardigans and/or Lady Jackets from J.Crew are trés chic to wear and look fantastic with jeans or these black Fairbanks pants from Madewell that fit like a dream.
I am always on the hunt for the perfect pair of black pants and white shirt, and I have to admit these Fairbanks pants with a slim fit and pin-tucked legs are in the running. Tucked underneath the striped lady cardigan is a black contrast tee from Massimo Dutti. I introduced this brand last year and have my eye on several things from their spring collection.
Black cap-toe slingbacks are the perfect choice to elevate the outfit. And you can’t go wrong with a black baguette handbag.

I have this stripped lady jacket from last year and love it! Thank you for styling it with other items to show another way of wearing it. Have a great day!
It’s such a beautiful cardigan! I’m glad you found the post useful for a different styling option.
Congratulations on the podcast! I have been blessed with a mother-in-law (since deceased), and 3 daughter-in-laws. I can honestly say there has never been a time when we did not get along. We have mutual love and respect and enjoy our time together. I feel very sorry for families where the in-laws do not get along (egos, jealousy, power struggle?). Of course we do not all have identical thoughts and beliefs but we have a great bond with the mutual love of my sons. I respect my daughters- in-law and they respect me. We get together as entire family as well as small groups. We have even talked about how lucky we are to all get along so well.
Look forward to listening to your podcast. And todays post was spot on for me
I am truly blessed with beautiful daughter’s in law! I am happy to hear you are too!
Dear Beth,
I’ll look forward to checking out your podcast, Message from Mom! I recall you have a really nice voice too when I’ve listened to some of your videos. I wish you had been my MIL, and I will use you as a role model when that time comes for me. Cherish our adult children’s choices. It seems insecurity is often the root of most monsters in laws?
Thanks, Carolina Girl! We’re very excited about our new venture!
