Happy Thursday, Ladies! Now is the time for me to begin to rotate out my summer wardrobe. Usually, this is done piecemeal, at least until it’s consistently cool enough that I am not reaching for a pair of shorts to wear on the odd 80-degree day. I start by rotating in pieces that straddle warm and cool weather, like knit skirts and cashmere tees. This outfit is a good example of my strategy, though it still might be a little too warm for tall boots! Today, I am sharing how to style a sweater skirt for fall.

I love pencil skirts because of their classic, sophisticated style and I have slowly been adding knit pencil skirts to my fall and winter wardrobe over the last couple of years. This ensemble is a matching set, and you know I am a big fan of a matching set for the many styling options they offer. Wear the pieces together to create the look of a dress, and then mix and match to your heart’s content.
While the Vertical Stripe Sweater Skirt is still available in all sizes, both petite and regular, this Vertical Stripe Mock Neck Shell is only available in limited sizes, but don’t let that deter you! I have collected some other beautiful options, like this Ribbed Mock Neck Shell, or this Mock Neck Cashmere Shell from Quince.
If you’re ready to go long sleeve, try a Mock Neck Ribbed Sweater or a V-Neck Sweater.

A great feature of this matching set is that it’s neutral – black and tan. There are so many options for different outfit combinations with black and tan. You can top your skirt with a camel sweater tee or a cashmere wrap sweater. Try a simple black tee topped with an oversized boyfriend cardigan for a cozy-chic look.

So, as I mentioned, I love the shoulder season versatility of a knit sweater skirt. To accommodate cooler temps, I am styling this ensemble today with tall boots. These are stiletto heel boots from Schutz, the Mikki Up Knee High Boots. If you prefer a block heel, try the Mikki Up Block Boots.
Keeping my handbag simple and chic with the Medium LouLou Matelassé Leather Shoulder Bag. While this classic bag is an investment, you can similar styles at affordable prices. The most similar and high-quality version is the Tory Burch Kira Bag. But even that bag might be too steep for some. Instead, check out the Quilted Top Handle Italian Leather Bag from Quince.

A classic trench coat is the perfect topper for inclement weather. If it’s really chilly, a beautiful wool top coat would be just the ticket. If you’re like me and you love a good pattern mix, be playful and a little daring, top your Vertical Stripe Sweater Skirt with the Animal Print Moto Jacket.
As we move into fall and winter collections, I am sure we will see more styles of knit skirts hit our favorite brands and retailers. I am partial to a pencil skirt style, but knit skirts come in all kinds of lengths and styles.
