Happy Thursday, Ladies! Despite the high temperatures lately, we are in full fall mode at Style at a Certain Age. There are so many fall trends to love this year; the English Countryside trend is among my favorites because I love tweed, checks, and plaids, mixed with florals and flowy fabrics; another favorite is the menswear-inspired trends that feature tailored pieces in suiting fabrics like herringbone, Glen plaid, and pinstripes.
Today, Kelly shares how she's styling menswear-inspired pinstripes

This is a three-piece suit with a matching vest, blazer, and trousers. All three pieces are sold separately at J.Crew Factory. Today, I styled all three pieces together for fun, because I have never worn a three-piece suit before! What I love about this ensemble is that I can wear it all together, but I can also get a lot of variety with my wardrobe when I mix and match any of these three pieces with other items in my closet.
Pinstripes never fully go out of style thanks to classic men’s suiting. But every so often it comes around in a big way for womenswear. This is great because it’s a perfect opportunity to select a few pieces in the classic pattern that will have longevity in your wardrobe.

The Patterned Pleated Trouser is sold in petite. I am wearing Petite 0. I did get them hemmed a little so I can easily wear flats with them. So keep that in mind. Overall these trousers are really comfortable; I love the roomy straight legs and they have a good drape.
The pants are selling out quicker than I imagined, but the good news is they come in another classic pattern: Grey Menswear Plaid. Plus, J.Crew Factory often restocks their popular styles.
It’s the same story with the vest - this Pinstripe Button-Front Vest is nearly sold out. The vest doesn’t come in petite sizes; I am wearing a size 0. Another option would be to go with the black version of this vest - which would look great with the Grey Menswear Plaid trousers. And I love navy and black, so it would be a fun mix-match contrast to wear the black vest with the navy pinstripe trousers.
Fortunately, the Pinstripe One-Button Blazer does come in petite sizes and it’s fully stocked. I am wearing petite 0 and it fits perfectly.

Styling a three-piece suit can go a few different directions in terms of formality. If I were in an office environment, I might wear loafers or ballet flats. If I were styling this ensemble for an evening out, I would go with a strappy metallic heel or embellished flats.
I like the look of sneakers with menswear-inspired trousers, so I went with high-top Converse. These are custom Chuck Taylors from a few years ago, you can always rest assured that the classic white high tops will always be in style. If you want a fun alternative to the classic Allstars, try the Comme des Garçons Play collab with the Hidden Heart High Top Sneaker.
Just for a pop of color, I have The Mini Shopper Tote from Madewell. This orange color is no longer available but the same bag is available in Sepia and a Deep Merlot color. I love the shape and size of this bag so much, I just bought the Merlot version and the color is so pretty in person.

Kelly,
You are really blossoming lately! I love your current hairstyle and color and I have also really enjoyed your posts. I love pinstripes but with my very casual lifestyle (I’m retired) don’t think I would wear a suit much. But I LOVE that cropped pinstripe bomber jacket and am considering buying it.
Thanks for your informative post.
Hi Bonnie! I love love love that pinstripe bomber jacket. I think I might snap it up too! I don’t have many occasions to wear a suit either, but it’s fun sometimes to wear something unexpected. Thanks so much for stopping by today! xo Kelly
