Choose Flattering Fits

Start with the right foundation: tailored shorts in breathable fabrics like cotton twill, linen, or structured denim. Look for mid-to-high rises and inseams between 5–9 inches for comfort and flattering coverage.

Elevate with Footwear

Shoes can make or break your look. Skip sneakers or flip-flops and reach for elevated sandals, espadrilles, or low block heels to dress up your shorts ensemble.

Style Tip:
A nude sandal or metallic slide lengthens the leg and adds just the right amount of shine. If you prefer closed-toe, a pointed flat or driving loafer looks sophisticated and seasonal.

Thankyou Beth for such easy wearing and ‘copiable’ ideas for wearing shorts!

Just wish I had your super legs – I’m a UK tree- trunk leg kind of girl.! Xx

    1. Oh you made me smile! Trust me—we’re all our own worst critics. It’s not about having “perfect” legs, it’s about finding the right cut and styling tricks to feel confident. And you, my friend, sound fabulous already! Tree-trunk legs or not (your words, not mine 😉), you absolutely can rock a great pair of shorts.

Thank you for being here and sharing your lovely energy!

Absolutely love all the short outfits and pairings! I am 70 and would not hesitate to wear any of them. Brilliant and stylish! Looking fabulous Beth!

    1. Thank you so much! I love hearing that—age is never a limit when it comes to style. It’s all about confidence and wearing what makes you feel fabulous. So glad you’re embracing shorts with style and flair—you inspire me too!

  3. Nan

I am not overweight but seem to have accumulated fat pads inner knees which are ugly. Any suggestions? Are knee length shorts totally out?

    1. You are not alone! Our bodies change over time—even if our weight stays consistent—and those subtle shifts (like inner knee fat pads or softening around the knees) are completely normal. But here’s the good news: style has no hard rules, just smart solutions.

✨ Knee-length shorts are absolutely not out! The key is in the cut and fabric. Look for styles that:

Have a slim-but-not-tight fit through the thigh

Hit just above or right at the knee (to elongate the leg)

Are made of structured fabrics like stretch cotton or twill for a clean line

Some great options? Bermuda shorts with a slight A-line shape, or tailored walking shorts from brands like Ann Taylor, J. Crew, or Talbots (especially their curvy or classic cuts).

💡 Styling tip: Pair with a tucked-in blouse or fitted top and a low block heel or sleek sneaker to keep the silhouette balanced and fresh. You can also draw the eye upward with a statement necklace or scarf.

And remember—confidence is the best accessory. If you’re comfortable and feel great, that’s what people notice.
