When it comes to travel, packing efficiently while ensuring comfort and style can often feel like a daunting task. One of the best choices you can make for your travel wardrobe is to include knitwear. Here are several reasons why knitwear should be a staple in your suitcase, making your trip more enjoyable and stress-free.

Knitwear comes in a variety of styles, from cozy sweaters and quarter zips to lightweight pullovers and wraps. This versatility allows you to mix and match knit pieces with different outfits, whether you’re exploring a bustling city or enjoying a quiet evening by the sea. A simple knit sweater can be paired with jeans for a casual look or dressed up with a skirt for a more refined appearance.
Traveling often means dealing with unpredictable weather conditions. A soft, cozy knit provides both comfort and warmth, making it the perfect layering piece. If the weather cools down unexpectedly or if you're spending time in air-conditioned spaces, having knitwear on hand ensures you stay comfortable without sacrificing style.
This week, I’m creating my packing list for my Mediterranean Cruise! I leave Sunday night and arrive in Rome on Monday. Follow along on Instagram, where I will share the whole experience daily! One thing I always pack when I head out of dodge is a matching knit set that I can lounge around in the hotel room or, in this case, cabin. Last summer, I discovered Varley Knitwear at the Nordstrom Anniversary. It was love at first sight! Founded by a husband and wife team Varley is a contemporary fashion brand for the modern woman that focuses on year-round collections in knitwear, outerwear, and everyday staples. I admit I’m already a BIG fan of their knitwear and knew Varley would be on it when it was time to pull together my cruise packing list.
When I’m on vacation, it’s a must to have several comfy and cozy outfits I can slip into early in the morning and late at night. You never know if you need to make a coffee run in the morning or a midnight snack run in the evening. I chose two different sets to pack in my suitcase, one in Ivory and one in Black. The Ivory Marl Sweatshirt and matching Slim Cut Joggers feel like butter, ladies, BUTTER and I just might never wear regular clothes again. I paired them with retro sneakers for a monochromatic look.
The second outfit starts with a crochet crewneck sweatshirt (I wore a ribbed tee underneath) and slim knit ankle pants. This time, I chose suede sneakers for added texture. I’m certain we can all agree that a hat comes in handy if our hair doesn’t look its best in the morning.
Many knitwear items are made from lightweight materials that can easily be packed away without taking up too much space in your suitcase. This is especially beneficial if you're trying to maximize your packing without exceeding airline weight limits. A few knitted pieces can provide a range of outfit options without adding bulk to your luggage.
Knitwear never goes out of style. Whether you opt for classic cable-knit sweaters or modern, minimalist designs, knitwear adds a touch of sophistication to your travel wardrobe. You won’t need to worry about looking outdated in your travel photos or feeling out of place in different settings. Knitwear can transition effortlessly from day to night, keeping you looking chic throughout your trip.
Most knitwear is machine washable and wrinkle-resistant, which is a dream come true for travelers. You can wear your favorite sweaters multiple times during your trip without the hassle of dry cleaning. This ease of care means you can enjoy your adventure without constantly worrying about your clothing.
Knitwear is ideal for layering, allowing you to adapt to changing temperatures throughout the day. Whether you’re hiking in the morning chill or strolling through a sunlit city in the afternoon, layering a light knit over a tee or under a jacket enables you to stay comfortable no matter the weather. Plus, layering adds a stylish flair to your looks!
Traveling can be stressful, but slipping into your favorite knit can provide a sense of home and comfort when you’re away. The familiar feel of a cozy sweater can help you relax during long flights or train rides, making your journey more enjoyable.
Next time you’re packing for a trip, consider adding some stylish and practical knitwear to your suitcase. Its versatility, comfort, lightweight nature, timeless style, ease of care, layering potential, and cozy feel make knitwear the perfect travel companion. Embrace the knitwear trend in your travels, and you’ll be ready to tackle any adventure that comes your way! Safe travels!

The tops are cute, but the bottoms are too short for tall gals like you and me, Beth! I so wish Nordstrom would recognize that women come in different heights.
