happy hump day, ladies. we are still counting the days, right?! at least i am. and the countdown is on for Halloween – T-10. who has picked out their costume? are your treats made or bought? are your pumpkins carved or painted? or maybe they’re just stacked on your front porch with no embellishments. this year i’m thinking Wicked Witch of the West might be a good getup. after all, she loved a monochromatic outfit – black from head to toe. however, she was dying to add a pop of red to her ensemble. but if you’re looking for an outfit that’s a snap to put together, elongates your frame, and is equal parts chic and sophisticated, then i have a few monochromatic outfit ideas for you.
what exactly is a monochromatic outfit? when you put together mono meaning one and chroma meaning color, you have a monochromatic outfit with clothing items in the same color family. so if you are dressed in the same hue head to toe, whether it be black, beige, pink, red, or blue, you are wearing a monochromatic outfit. easy peasy. my kind of outfit.
today i’m starting with a navy blue color palette. but notice my monochromatic outfit doesn’t need the colors to match exactly. as long as they’re in the same color family (mine is navy), the outfit will come together. the navy blue blazer from Boden is a lighter shade than my cashmere turtleneck from Everlane. and the navy blue trousers from Ann Taylor are a shade lighter than the sweater. but it works. and it’s pleasing and easy on the eye.

if i said it once, i’ve said it a thousand times, accessories matter. think of them as the icing on the cake or the exclamation point at the end of a sentence. accessories are so easy to incorporate into any outfit. if you want to add pizazz to your outfit add a scarf (old, similar here). shoes are another way to make your outfit sizzle. notice how the leopard pumps (old, similar here) add dimension to my monochromatic outfit and a whole lotta personality. but let’s not forget handbags can add the wow factor too. in this case, it’s all about texture from a canvas handbag from Coach.

You are such a pretty lady and I love seeing what you put together!
Very classic and chic!!
Monochromatic outfits are my favorite for feeling easy yet elegant. They always make me feel taller, slimmer, and confidently put-together. Thank you for featuring the concept.
Hi Beth
I love it when you put together an outfit with something I already have. I own the scarf so thanks for the OOTD. I could also do a brown or black outfit with that scarf. I’m getting my nails done today so I think I will put together an out fit and dress up for the occasion. I get out of the house so seldom it’s a big deal. Enjoy this lovely fall weather!
There are navy’s that lean toward warm and others that lean cool. Can we combine them together? It’s so hard to tell sometimes until you take the piece Into the light, which way it leans. Black and especially brown can be hard to wear together. I wore what I thought was a brown jacket with my leopard top and when pictures were taken, it look dark olive more than brown. Does it matter?
You are my style heroine!!! I love this outfit!!!thank you!!! Love Talbots! Love scarves!!! Oh and Zi love your handsome puppy 2!!!
So glad you wrote about the Wicked Witch. I’m a KS girl and always will be. That was on one of the few channels, every year. I was always dying to watch it. My mom escaped one year, so tired of it, while my sis and I sat glued to the tube. Enjoyed your take on monochromatic. Never tire of your ideas. Fresh.
I love a monochromatic outfit even if it has a pattern. The shoes and purse are fantastic.
Greetings Beth!
I recently found your site and really enjoy
your style ideas. I even tried the LO’real
Age Perfect makeup line. It’s wonderful!
Another thing I tried, you might like it too, is “Lifter Gloss” from Maybelline. It has Hyaluronic acid. I don’t even use a lip liner it applies easily and is quite glossy.
Please know, I’ve never written in before your site. I feel Inspired!
Keep Being Beautiful!
Sincerely,

I wouldn’t have thought to wear leopard shoes with navy but with the purse and the little bit of camel in the scarf, it all goes together beautifully! Thanks for the wardrobe expanding ideas.
This is one of your best! The pattern mixing – shoes, bag and scarf – is really interesting but still harmonious. Thank you for the inspiration.
