It’s a fun post today as I’m kicking off the Mother of the Groom series. For the next four weeks, I will share a MOG dress, makeup, hair, and accessories. One of my kiddos is getting married on NYE so the countdown is on, and final selections must be made. The Mother of the Bride is wearing a full-length hunter-green dress, so all of my dress choices will be compatible with her dress. It will be a tough choice to pick ‘the dress” as I love all of the options I will share in the upcoming weeks.

First up is what I call my backup dress, which I bought months ago from the BHLDN collection at Anthropologie. Anthro has a lovely line that’s devoted to all things weddings, including Bridal Dresses, MOB/MOG dresses, Bridesmaid dresses, and wedding guest dresses. When I spied this dress almost a year ago, I thought simple, chic, and elegant. All the elements a MOG dress needs. And it’s a dress you can wear to other special occasions if need be.

Since it’s a form-fitting dress, I wore shapewear underneath to conceal any lumps or bumps. The best-selling red carpet strapless bra from Wacoal and a high waist shaping slimmer from TC.

A pair of crystal slingback pumps (that are quite comfortable) add a little pizazz. And I reached for a crystal sequin clutch that complements the shoes. In keeping with the simplicity of the dress, I decided to keep jewelry to a minimum with statement crystal earrings and a gold bracelet.

All in all, I’m pleased with the outfit, but I think there’s a better option. But it’s always good to know you have a backup dress available. It takes the pressure off when you’re on the hunt for the perfect dress.

The dress is pretty but I am not a big fan of off the shoulder. I do like the shoes and bag but I think you can do better. It’s ok but the bare right arm is not too flattering. Pretty dress but keep looking.
You might be disappointed with my selections as they all have bare arms. And I absolutely love a one shoulder look and wear it often.
I love the dress, it is very elegant. I am not sure the color is the best suited for you, I like you in bright rich tones that show off your glorious hair color!

It has been so much fun shopping the MOG dress. I’m headed to Atlanta next week for a shopping spree with one of my besties so I might have four dresses to share instead of three.
I don’t even have to see the next dress, though I will want to see it lol. This is such a classy dress and you look classy in it and the accessories are spot on. This is the dress unless you can wow me with something spectacular! I don’t even mind that it is one shoulder. Looks great on you!

Elegant dress but I think it’s too long. You want to be able to put the dress on and forget about it, not be looking down when you walk in case you trip on the hem.
All the dresses I’m sharing in the MOG series are off the rack. No alterations have been made until final selections with dress, shoes, etc…

Saks has a great selection. Anthropologie too! Sachin and Babi and Tadashi Shoji are great brands. But don’t forget your local boutiques.

No wrap. I’m letting the dress take center stage. There will be lots of dancing at the reception which always gets my blood flowing.

Also have to say how nice it is that you and MOB are coordinating your outfits, because that sounds like the two of you get along well. My late mam never particularly cared for my late MIL, which wasn’t such a big deal because they lived on different continents, but I definitely hope that if/when my daughter gets married, I gain a new friend in her MIL!

It’s a beautiful dress but the color is too similar to a wedding dress and u might compete with the bride. Also, a different color would be more flattering with your hair color.
This color is quite popular for MOB/MOG dresses. Go Figure.

which you may find useful. It is very brave of you to ask
for suggestions. You do look lovely in the dress, but my
suggestion is to go slightly brighter in color. And a famous designer once said when you are ready to go out, check your look in the mirror. Unless you are wearing two pieces or less of accessories, take something off. I think the watch. No matter what you wear, enjoy all the wedding fun. Phyllisa

Beth, this dress is absolutely amazing for (a) A NEW YEAR’s eve wedding (festive/gold) and (b) to coordinate with the others in the wedding party/MOB. You look beautiful in that color! First impression; stunning! On further “inspection,” I don’t think this is your color. It seems to wash you out and doesn’t compliment your hair color, imo. Can’t wait to see what else you are trying on!
