all right, gang, July is winding down, and we’re gearing up for summer’s last hurrah! can you believe that June and July just sailed by at lightning speed? long days, blue skies, and sunshine are still in our future, but we know fall isn’t far behind this time of year. and we all know the best part of fall besides gorgeous foliage is fall fashion! there’s just something about sweaters, boots, blazers, and jackets that never get old. but while we’re still firmly rooted in summer, let’s take one more look at one skirt 3 ways – date night. if you missed how this simple black skirt is styled for the weekend or work, catch up on your reading here and here.
one thing that is important to me is for my wardrobe to work for me. not the other way around. when we have the basics on hand (core pieces in neutral colors), it’s easy to put together an outfit. separates offer versatility which is why i’m always on the lookout for shorts, skirts, pants, tops, and sweaters that can be mixed and matched with other items with ease. if a black skirt isn’t your thing, replace it with black shorts or pants.
if you’re looking to add a little glam to your outfit for an evening out and about, accessories are the name of the game. many of us have a statement necklace on hand to jazz up an outfit. but don’t forget statement earrings are a nice substitute along with a bracelet. this zebra print blouse makes a statement all on its own, so statement earrings (old, similar here and here) add a hint of elegance to this outfit, as well as a gold bracelet (old, similar here and here). when putting together an evening outfit, heels are typically involved. if you want comfort and height, wedges are the way to go. black suede sandals from Ann Taylor reinforce the subtle sophistication of this outfit that starts with a black skirt (limited sizes, similar here and here) and zebra top from Banana Republic. a black clutch handbag and i’m ready for cocktails or a concert.
sleeves are having a moment this year. the balloon sleeves, ruching at the shoulders, and trapunto stitching add that little extra something to this zebra print blouse. the fabric is ramie which is similar to linen. wear it with a cami or all on its own. dress it up with a skirt or down with a pair of jeans.

wedge sandals are sexy and comfy. what’s better than that? these sandals look fantastic with dresses or skirts or pants or… well, the list goes on and on.

Excellent combo of white and black
Very pretty on you!!!
Thank you for sharing all your pretty combinations with us.
Have a nice day.
thanks for stopping by today!
While I do like to follow trends, I don’t actually think the big sleeves will be a trend. I think they are more a fad. So I’m skipping. I don’t think they are versatile enough for me. Love the three way posts!
isn’t fad and trend the same thing? i’m confused.
You look absolutely stunning. I love the skirt and those sandals are so sexy on you.
thanks so much!
Very nice for date night! And I love those sandals! Too much for my budget right now though…
thanks, nancy! Ann Taylor always has fantastic sales so keep an eye out for one.
Love this version, liked them all but this is my favorite! Very feminine and pretty!! Also love the way you are wearing your hair!! So flattering and attractive!!!
the blouse has lots of personality! it will look fantastic with a pair of jeans too.
Seriously..I love your blog but that skirt has to go. This look with that terrible blouse adds so many pounds. Sorry but I am not in
the blog shows a variety of outfits. it this one isn’t your thing hopefully there’s been one or two that has.
Thank you for the post of how to wear a black skirt three ways. I find this very useful as I feel like I get into a rut with clothing, wearing the same things the same way.
One question about the Banana Republic zebra blouse: do you find it comfortable? I read comments about it on the website and a couple of people mentioned that the fabric is scratchy.
some people are more sensitive to fabrics than others. i don’t happen to be one of those people. but after it was washed it was softer.
This is a great look and you look very youthful and beautiful in it.
thanks, brenda! just love how versatile this skirt is.
I like all 3 stylings of this black skirt, but this one is my favorite due to the blouse. While the colors do not work for me (lovely on you), the sleeves make my heart sing. Just the right amount of pouf – not overboard – and a length I love. The band collar and matching sleeve band are charming details too. I ADORE all the romantic, feminine blouses that are out now and have been MADLY buying. They are my style, whether on trend or not, and always have been! I’m gettin’ while the gettin’s good!
Beth, I truly love the way you pull off all the different styles of clothes. You have a great knack for style and showing it off at any age!!
Most of all I have enjoyed watching your hairstyle and have tried to get my stylist to make my grey hair look like your style. Question for you-how do you keep the long bangs from falling in your eyes? Do you use any special product? My hair is much straighter than yours and I have trouble with them falling in my eyes.
Keep up the great work you do for all of us older ladies showing us how to look and feel our best!!

I like your posts of the skirt three ways, Beth! Great versatility and looks. I like this one best with the zebra print blouse and the black skirt. You look great in this combo. The suede sandals are very classy. Thanks for posting.
