happy monday morning! if you can believe it, this monday happens to be the last monday in july. the dog days of summer are upon us as we march into my favorite month of the year. august. that’s my birthday month, the month i married mr. style, and two out of three kiddos were born in august too. i guess you’d say it’s one busy month for celebrations. and the beach is calling my name as i’m headed to Tybee for a long weekend. come september, i’ll be at the beach house for one glorious long week as i bid adieu to summer. but wait. summer is still in full swing with temps hot and hotter. this week i thought we would take a look at one of my favorite ways to beat the heat. one skirt three ways – weekend, then work then evening.
in case you hadn’t heard, the Olympic Games commenced last Saturday. catch all the action and updates on Olympics.com. of course, my favorite designer Ralph Lauren designed Team USA’s opening ceremony uniforms with innovative RL COOLING technology. the US athletes wore fitted navy blazers, striped shirts, and blue jeans with a striped belt made out of recycled plastic bottles. and, yes, white sneakers were the footwear of choice. Kim Kardashian’s brand Skims designed the official team USA undergarments, pajamas, and loungewear. the capsule collection is available at Skims.
this week i’m staying in the neutral zone thanks to this darling black skirt from Banana Republic. it’s a wrap skirt with buttons on the side. the fit was off as it fit my waist but was too tight around my hips. since it’s a wrap skirt with plenty of fabric i simply moved the two bottom buttons over to accommodate the fact i have hips. it’s an easy fix that took all of ten minutes. now i have a cute black midi skirt that will serve me well. today, i chose a simple cotton gauze white blouse with rolled cuffs to wear with the black skirt. it’s a cute, casual, and comfy weekend look that i jazzed up with a raffia stretch belt from Anthropologie, striped straw handbag from Scoop available at Walmart, and black and white bangles (similar here) from Chico’s. leather slide sandals from J.Crew complete the look.
love the easy-breezy fabric and rolled cuffs.

I love the look except at 5’3″ the skirt would be at my ankles or somewhere in between my knees and ankles. Do not think it would be a good look for me. Maybe I will have to look for a shorter skirt.
this is when a good tailor steps in. they can tweak proportions.
I love this look! I’m not very original, so I often purchase pieces you highlight. Unfortunately, lately, the pieces you have highlighted are already sold out by the time I read your posts. Sad for me, but so good for you! You are very much an inspiration! I have a full black poplin skirt and a new white short sleeved pop-over blouse that I’m going to try together because of your look. All I need is the belt and bag!
Banana Republic is especially on fire this year. they introduce a vintage collection a month or so ago that sold out in hours?
it’s crazy!
August is my month as well! I have a birthday on the 29th and my son has one on the second
it’s a great month! happy early birthday!
Love your nail color blue too!
thank you! isn’t that a fun color?!
I Love this look. The blue toenails are great. It’s always in the details. I like the belt but probably would not wear one that wide. I am short waited. Love straw bags in the summer. Don’t share your love of August. On hurricane watch here on Gulf Coast.
the blue polish has been a hit!
Did I miss something? I am seeing the skirt 1 way not 3?
today, it’s the weekend look. tomorrow is work the next day is evening.
Ordered the skirt even though the reviews weren’t very good regarding the sizing. Your suggestion about moving the buttons is an easy fix. We’ll see!
let me know if it works. it worked for me as the waist was perfectly fine but not the hips.
You look incredibly classy and beautiful. I love the skirt and sandals. And your blue nails are really pretty. I hope you have a happy birthday month.
i loved this blue polish. reminds me of blue jeans.
Very nice outfit! Had to have the bag!
August is my favorite month too. I also got married in August and had my first child in August. I just love the beach and we always went on vacation at the beach in August! Great celebrations and great memories. Enjoy yours.
august is a very good month indeed. enjoy your celebrations!
