Happy Thursday! Spring is definitely in full bloom here in Athens. Usually, we don’t start our outdoor garden work until mid-April, but we have made some big changes in our yard already; we moved all the trees and shrubs that the deer have been eating in the front yard to the back, which is fenced. The new mix of colors and textures we have in the backyard inspired me to pattern mix with my outfit, so today I have a Pattern Mixed Spring Outfit.

A toile or toile-like print is great for pattern mixing because the print is delicate, with fine lines. So it can work well with another print that is more forward, like stripes or polka dots. This blouse, the Cornelia Shirt in Chinoiserie Toile is from J.McLaughlin. I love the print and feel of the fabric so much that I decided to purchase the matching Carmel Pants so I can wear the matching set, or pair the pants with a tank top and chambray shirt as my third layer – what a great spring outfit that will be!
I am a big fan of the Girlfriend Chinos from J.Crew Factory. I have a few pairs in different colors and prints. These High Rise Printed Girlfriend Chinos in polka dot are fun, and they come in one of my favorite color combinations: blue and green. J.Crew Factory chinos are great – they come in petite sizing, they are made well, they fit comfortably and the price point is really comfortable.
I shared these Polo Ralph Lauren Leather Sandals with my Spring Occasion Dress. They are pricey but worth the investment. I have already worn them so much this spring, and I am sure I will have years and years to love these sandals. The Rag & Bone Belize Straw Bucket Bag is from last year, but it's back again for summer 2024!
A little more about our backyard; the white tail deer population in our neighborhood is out of control. As much as I love seeing them here and there (especially when they have the babies) our herd of females and juvenile males has reached unsustainable proportions. This means they eat things that they shouldn’t or wouldn’t normally eat. We were finally very tired of waking up to a front yard that had been mowed down overnight.
This spurred us to move everything they’ve been eating; Japanese Maples, Evergreen Ferns, Camellias, Azaleas, Lilies, Juniper, and Loropetalum to the back, which is protected by our high fences. Along with the transplanting, we added a shale stone pathway and fescue. Since we live on a downhill slope, we re-shaped and added to our “lazy river” to handle water runoff more efficiently.
We had this done just last week, so I will keep you all posted on how it looks as everything bounces back.

Love your back yard. The greenery is around it is just beautiful and peaceful. Enjoy!!
Thanks so much, Natalia! It’s a work in progress, but I love being out there working on it. Thanks for stopping by, xo Kelly
Wow! Can’t believe the deer eat all those things! Your backyard looks lovely. As does your wild print pairing today. I especially like your straw bag and those sandals are great.
Hi Deanna, it’s been surprising to us too, especially since we started with “deer resistant” plants! Thanks so much for stopping by, xo Kelly
Hi Kelly! Great job moving the plants and your backyard is beautiful. So inviting. We also have a large deer population where we live. A local farmer told us anything that looks like candy deer food. Love your outfit, esp. top and bag. Thank you!
Thank you, Susan! Well, our deer had quite a season of feasting in our front yard! Take care, xo Kelly
