Some of you may have noticed there was no blog post on Tuesday. Reason being some rip-roaring storms blew through Athens on Monday evening, leaving a toppled tree on Kelly's house! Not to worry, as AJ and Kelly are in Tybee for the week, so no one was home to hear the deafening crash (I imagine it was...) of the tree top that pierced the roof of their house. Yours truly was dispatched to assess the damage, which thankfully is relegated to the attic. Phew!
But we're back in action today with a cute post from Kelly and me modeling Petite and Regular Preppy Style.
In the ever-evolving world of fashion, trends come and go. From grunge to minimalism, athleisure to boho, it seems like there's always a new style dominating the runway. But amidst this constant flux, an old favorite is making a bold comeback. The one that’s near and dear to my heart. Yes, once synonymous with old-school elitism, preppy style is strutting its way back into the fashion world, proving that classic never goes out of style. So let’s look into the evolution of preppy fashion, uncover the key elements of this timeless trend, and share how to incorporate preppy style into your wardrobe effortlessly. Preppy style has a lot in common with classic style, so you may well find that you are drawn to elements of both. It can also draw inspiration from natural style. As a preppy style personality, we love cozy knits, checks, and stripes and think nothing of wearing flat shoes and natural fibers, including leather and wool.
Are you ready to make a statement with your fashion choices? Let’s take a look at the resurgence of the preppy look.

The term “Preppy” was born in the early 20th century and applied to wealthy students—mostly coming from old money—who were being groomed for Ivy League education and went to Prepatory Schools shortened to Prep Schools. The students' uniforms influenced the style - navy blazers, white button-downs, khaki chinos, and loafers. By the time 1980 rolled around, the now-iconic humorous guidebook to the style type, The Official Preppy Handbook, was released. Its intentions leaned more toward ironic than informative, but it managed to spark a preppy craze that would create different offshoots for decades to come.
Preppy style has come a long way since its inception, evolving and adapting to the changing times. One of the driving forces behind its resurgence is the influence of popular culture icons. These individuals have effortlessly embraced the preppy look, giving it a modern twist and reintroducing it to a whole new generation.
From movies to music, pop culture icons have played a significant role in shaping the perception of preppy fashion. Films like "Clueless" and "The Royal Tenenbaums" showcased characters that exuded a certain preppy charm with their tailored blazers, pleated skirts, and collared shirts. These cinematic representations of the preppy aesthetic offered a fresh perspective and made it more accessible to a broader audience.
In the realm of music, artists like Taylor Swift and Harry Styles have become synonymous with preppy style. Their choice of attire, whether it's Swift's signature high-waisted skirts or Styles' tailored suits, pays homage to the classic elements of the preppy look while infusing it with their own personal flair. Their fashion choices have not only influenced their fans but also cemented preppy style as an aspirational trend.
The rise of social media has added fuel to the fire, allowing influencers and celebrities to showcase their preppy-inspired outfits to a global audience. Instagram and TikTok have become virtual runways where individuals can take inspiration from their favorite style icons and incorporate preppy elements into their own wardrobes. The accessibility and relatability of these platforms have undoubtedly contributed to the resurgence of the preppy style.
Today, Kelly and I share a preppy style outfit starting with a Schoolboy Blazer from J.Crew Factory, adding a graphic tee with dogs drinking cocktails (perfect for Fridays with Oscar), straight-leg jeans, and white sneakers. It's put a prep in my step, and Kelly's too!
Kelly is wearing Petite sizes and I am wearing Regular.

I have always been a blazer-lover but Im questioning whether I have been buying the correct size. to me, it looks as though the blazers you are wearing are too small; I have always bought them so that they close over the chest. Help appreciated.
Frances
Hi Frances,
These blazers are Schoolboy Blazers which have a “shrunken” look to them. But if you notice the shoulder seam hits where it should as well as the sleeve length. And we are able to button the blazer. These are all the details you need to pay attention to whether you are purchasing a structured blazer, boyfriend blazer or schoolboy blazer.
Hope this helps.
I am a blazer lover too. I found myself buying this boyfriend blazer Even though it was pink or maybe because it was pink. I bought the tweed Barbie blazer too though they were both pink, they Are completely different styles. I have made myself promise this is my last blazer for awhile. I have 30 some. I am afraid to count them. I am getting ready to do a fall closer clean and maybe I can make myself part with 2 or 3. Lol
Yes, I meant to comment on Kelly’s house! WOW! They really had a tree spike their roof! I am so glad that they were away when this happened (and have you nearby to check on things so you can help address it).
THANKFUL they are all safe (though the damage looks bad!)!
My Dad used to say “if money can solve it, it’s not a problem.” Thankfully, no one was hurt and there’s insurance!
Have a great weekend!
