who’s ready for friday? and superbowl sunday? whether you’re into football or not, this year is a historic year as the oldest quarterback to date will take the field. and i’m rooting for 43-year-old Tom Brady. what a testament to personal excellence and his love of the game he plays so well. some say he’s cheated father time, but i think it’s his devotion to clean living (no booze, clean foods kinda life) which has given him the stamina needed to walk onto the gridiron week after week, year after year. and you know what? we still need a few superheroes in our lives. so go show ’em how it’s done, Tom Brady. go Bucs!
since it is superbowl weekend, i have a healthy snack on deck and a cocktail you can keep on hand in a pitcher. of course, oscar is here for his weekly gig, and i have a cute and comfy ootd perfect for friday. so come on in and sit a spell as we dish up another fridays with oscar – snacks for superbowl 2021 edition.
today’s ootd is a nod towards spring. once the calendar flips the page to february, i’m ready to break up with old man winter. don’t get me wrong, every year when he knocks on the door, i’m happy to welcome him into my life. who can resist those chilly temps he brings with him so i can wear sweaters and boots and outerwear to my heart’s content? but boy, oh boy i’m just as ready to bid him adieu after only a few short months. i mean, who wants their guest to overstay their welcome?
first off, utility pants are on-trend this year. what do i mean when i say utility pants? utility and cargo pants first got their start in the military but were popularized by the fashion industry in the 1990s. this year i think they’re trending due to comfort with a break from athleisurewear. typically they feature oversized pockets and a looser fit. this pair of utility pants has muted shades of pink and blue and hail from Anthropologie, my go-to store for those items that keep classic style from looking stodgy or stale. a blue tee (old, similar here and here) and slip-on sneakers (similar here) complete this casual-chic ootd. think i’m ready to cheer the GOAT on (greatest of all time)!
today’s cocktail can be made ahead in a pitcher. y’all know i love margaritas, and this one has a citrusy flavor thanks to blood oranges. it goes perfectly with an avocado tomato concoction that’s equal parts dip and taco topping. all the ingredients are fresh and healthy, but if you want to splurge and add chips, there are so many “healthier” varieties these days. terra chips are a good alternative, as are blue corn tortilla chips and green mountain gringo tortilla chips (just scour the labels for the best choice).

Hi Beth! Did you do a full tuck-in with your tee. (such a cute OOTD) Throw in a few pics from behind so we novices can look great from all sides. 😉 Thanks for the inspiration!! You always look beautiful.
Love that outfit, Beth. My fav colours and I love those pants! We all need a little femininity and fun right now.
Thanks also for that yummy looking cocktail and healthy snacks. Most of our friend, for game days, just love to pile on the potato chips, cheese puffs, candy and nary a vegetable in sight! It’s okay to have those but I prefer to give people healthy choices for friends that have hidden health issues – diabetes, heart, etc. We do the same with drinks virgin and fully loaded – no questions asked.
Enjoy the game, Beth, and give that precious Oscar a hug from me 🌷
Hi Beth, Great to see you and Oscar again. Your IT people have reconnected me after some kind of hiccup in the system. Love your new hair and makeup. The Australian news says the COVID situation in the US looks like it is beginning to improve. I do hope so. I follow a few ladies over there and wish you all well. It has been a long haul.
Darling outfit. Love those pants and the shoe you chose. Your haircut is stunning and Oscar is too cute for words. My husband and I are looking forward to the Super Bowl and your relish recipe is right up my alley. Tom Brady is a true football hero. A real testament to hard work, discipline and persistence.
I truly enjoy your blog, especially on Friday! Your outfit is modern & comfortable, but true to your classic style. You’ve helped me to stay updated and not look frumpy. Can’t wait to try the margarita & avocado relish. They both look so fresh…an elevated version of margarita and guacamole! Thank you for your relevant and informative posts. Go Bucs!
I made both the Margarita and Avocado and Tomato relish tonight. Both were delicious and just a little different from the usual fare. My husband gave them 2 thumbs up! Thanks for the recipes.
Happy Super Bowl Sunday! Those are great pants. I will watch for a sale!
Meanwhile, I am rooting for Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs today, so I had to speak up. I’m going with the young man with a future (and last year’s winner, btw)!
