staying modern after 50. is it possible? or do we fade away and turn to dust? we’re told not to look like our daughters or granddaughters. and heaven forbid we’re trying too hard. what does that even mean? that we’re not supposed to try? yes, our bodies start to change after 50 our hair too, thanks to menopause and lower estrogen levels. but haven’t we navigated body changes throughout the years with menstruation, pregnancy, and postpartum blues? good golly, miss molly, we’ve got this, ladies! staying modern after 50 is definitely doable. aging with grace, strength, and beauty has never been more important because we’re paving the way for our daughters and granddaughters. staying modern, fresh, and relevant is our mantra. and yes, staying modern after 50 is more than possible. today, i have a few tips and tricks up my sleeve.
twice a year, fashion week takes place in New York, Paris, London, and Milan. trends trot down the runways for all the world to see. but it’s up to us to incorporate those trends into our wardrobes. this one tip will help over 50 women stay modern, fresh, and relevant. will you like every single trend that’s introduced? most likely not. but i’m certain there will be one or two trends that will suit your style aesthetic. shirt jackets are all the rage this year, with bold patterns on display. but i decided a shirt jacket in faux leather from Banana Republic was more to my liking. it’s paired with straight-leg pants from Theory for a classic yet on-trend look. leopard shoes add texture to this outfit, but the mini handbag from Coach keeps this outfit grounded in 2021.
it’s easy to forgo a skincare routine, especially when your budget is tight. that’s when drugstore skincare products come to our rescue. read this blog post or watch this video that rounded up a few of my favorite anti-aging drugstore products.

whether your hair turns silver, you add color, or you notice it’s thinning, there’s hope and help. with so many hair products available today, it’s easier than ever to keep your hair healthy. purple shampoo and conditioner used twice a week keep my silver hair shiny. if your hair is thinning, Nioxin can help. with so many hair color choices in the 21st century, using a protective shampoo and conditioner will keep your color-treated hair in tip-top shape. and, ladies, wash less. washing your hair too often can lead to dry, brittle hair.
yes, we have to stay abreast of fashion trends, but makeup trends change too. anyone still wear blue eyeshadow? exactly. it’s important to apply sunscreen, use a primer on your face and eyes, and fill in your brows, so they frame your face. and don’t skimp on your makeup brushes. it’s important to have the right tools on hand for the right application.
a regular manicure not only keeps your hands looking great, but there are health benefits attached. improved circulation and stronger nails are two benefits of regularly scheduled manicures at the salon or at home.

Beth I just adore your positive attitude and great tips! This post was a little ray of sunshine in my inbox!
I love that you go outside for your photos so we see clothes being worn in real life.
Those flats are so perfect with this outfit and I do like the leather Shacket. A notch up from the others. .
I love everything you said and agree!! I’m your age and remember my mom dressing so frumpy at my age and even younger. My mom at 92 now buys some of the same things I do! I love that our generation has decided to stay current. Hey! If it looks good on you… rock it!! Lol!!
What size are you wearing in the shirt jacket?
Hi Beth
I just purchased this shirt jacket from BR after seeing it featured here! It looks very chic and a little bit Betty Catroux (I think that’s her name – one of YSL’s muses/friends). Anyway, thank you for helping us stay relevant and awesome!
Take care, Sandra
This is awesome and I really needed it today! Thank you for the inspiration!
Informative post. I always appreciate posts with products for hair etc.
I watched the make-up tutorial too. First time to hear your voice! You have a great presentation voice!
Love your on trend outfit. The only thing I wouldn’t do is the tiny purse.
I know I carry way too much to begin with, but the bag seems so darn small and I’m wondering if I really like the proportion. You wear it well though.
